Why bother about the U-Value?
The U-Value is a standardized measurement unit of building thermal insulation quality.
The lower the U-Value, the better the insulation.
U-Values are important building metrics in cold climates.
Even though U-Values are less commonly referred to in hot climates, they are nevertheless important.
3
Why bother about the U-Value?
Cold Climates
Houses are heated.
If the bulding thermal insulation isnot good enough, heating energy is
lost to the environment.
More heating is necessary to keepthe indoor temperature constant.
Hot Climates
Houses are air-conditioned.
If the bulding thermal insulation isnot good enough, heat from theenvironment enters the building.
More air-conditioning is necessaryto keep the indoor temperature
constant.

Examples for hot climates
Case study «Measurement of the heat storage capacity of building elements»
In hot climates, heat is stored in the building envelope and released to the interior of the building. Thisstudy shows how you can measure this heat and how you can find out if improving the buildingenvelope will save energy. Read more.
The study is conducted by Lemon Consult, an energy consultancy in Zurich, Switzerland.
Case study «Measurement of the U-Value in an Arabian Villa» &Case study «Energy Audit and Retrofitting in Yarmouk, Kuwait»
These case studies show how greenTEG’s U-Value KIT can be used to measure U-Values in hotclimates.
The studies are conducted by Smart Insulation Finishing Systems, a distributor of greenTEG in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
