2.4 High Temperature Limit:A high temperature limit sensor installedontheSolarBoiler™modulepreventsthestoragetankfromexceeding82°C(180°F).An adjustable tempering valve can beinstalledonthehotwateroutletifrequiredbythelocalplumbingcode.
2.5 Over Temperature Protection:Theboilingpointof40/60%aqueoussolu-tion of Propylene glycol/distilled water is105°C (221°F). The maximum recom-mendedbulktemperatureis163°C(325°F)and the maximum recommended filmtemperatureis191°C(375°F).TheSolarBoiler™isequipedwitha414kPa,(60psi)pressurreliefvalve(PRV)onthesolarloop.Intheeventofapumpfailingtocirculatetheglycolonahotsunnyday, theglycolexpands in thesolarcollector, increasingthepressureinthesolarloop,andtherebyincreasingtheboilingpointoftheglycoltopreventboiling.

C. Liquid Handling System1.0 General Description:
TheSolarBoiler™moduleisaShellandCoil™allcopperheatexchangerandglycolreservoir. The heat transfer fluid in thesolarloopcirculatesfromthereservoirtothesolarcollectorsandbackthroughthecoilsof theheatexchangerbyapositivedisplacement pump. The solar loop isclosed fromtheatmosphere. A414kPa(60 psi) pressure relief valve is installedforsafety.Circulationontheshellorwatersideoftheheatexchangerisgeneratedbynaturalcirculation.
2.0 Principles of Operation:
2.1 Freeze Protection:Freezeprotectionisprovidedbyasolutionof 40%PropyleneGlycol USP and 60%distilledwaterinthesolarloop.Propyleneglycols freezing point is -19°C (-2.4°F).Thewaterinthesystemstartstoformicecrystals and pumping becomes difficult.The40/60aqueoussolutionofPropyleneGlycolprovidesburstprotection to -51°C(-60°F).
2.2 Contamination Protection:The Solar Boiler™ module operates atatmosphericpressure. Thestorage tankisatcitywaterpressureandthewaterwillflowintotheSolarBoiler™moduleifthereisaleakintheheatexchanger,dilutinganddispellingthesmallvolumeofheattransferfluidfromthesystem.Propyleneglycolisnontoxicfoodgradeapprovedheattransferfluidand iscompatiblewithasinglewallheatexchanger.
