President’s Pen

I would like to start off by welcoming Ryan Berger to the Board of Governors. Ryan is a Penn State grad and has been employed by Leach Wallace for over 15 years. Ryan worked industriously as our RP Chair and we are blessed to have him continue to contribute to our Chapter as a member of the board. The ASHRAE Region III annual conference was just held on August 16th - 18th in Roanoke, VA. For those of you who are not aware, the ASHRAE Society is made up of 14 Regions and 187 Chapters. Our Chapter is part of Region III, along with Philadelphia, Central PA, Johnstown, Pittsburgh, National Capital (DC), Hampton Roads, Richmond, Lehigh Valley, Roanoke, and Anthracite. The Chapter Regional Conference includes technical sessions, chapter operations training, and recognition of chapter and member achievements. It should come as no surprise to hear that the Baltimore chapter has some of the most talented engineers and firms in the region and we won 2 of the 6 Technology Awards for exemplary projects. Congratulations to Ken Frazier / Leach Wallace for the Towson University Health and Counseling Centers project, First Place – Education Building (Existing) Category. Congratulations to Jim Barrett / BKMA for I-95 Travel Plazas at Maryland House and Chesapeake House project, First Place – Commercial Buildings (New) Category. Our President-Elect and Programs Chair, Brad Watkins is putting together an outstanding lineup of technical sessions, speakers and events for our 2017-18 chapter meetings. Look for more information in our newsletter and on our website. I would also like to highlight an upcoming tour of Maryland’s First Net Zero School: Wilde Lake Middle School. This tour is presented by AIA Baltimore and our ASHRAE Chapter is also a co-sponsor. The event will be held on Wed Sept 27th from 4-6pm and more information is available at the following webpage: http://www.aiabaltimore.org/events/marylands-first-net-zero-school-wilde-lake-middle-school/.

Thank you, Craig Parks ASHRAE Baltimore Chapter President 2017/18
