We have been dealing with plastics -especially fluoroplastics - for almost 30years. Experience, creativity, meticulouswork and our advisory services haveallowed us to become a competent partner of industry.

We are offering you not only a completerange of fabrication and delivery in a difficult and extensive area but also com-prehensive advice which shall help youto optimally use these plastics for solvingvaried applications and problems. Pleaseask us and profit from our longstandingexperience in this sector.

Products and industries Materials and production

Thermoron® and Polytetraflon® heatexchangers are being successfully used inmany industries. Starting with the galvani-zing industry, the uses range from the che-mical industry, the wastewater industry, the foodstuffs industry and the textile indu-stry - as well as applications in environmen-tal protection like for example desulphuriza-tion of flue gases - to the semi-conductorindustry and the photovoltaic industry.

The PFA, ECTFE, PTFE and PVDF fluoropla-stics are utilized as materials. These fluoro-plastics excel in a resistance to chemicalswhich is very good or even universal, aswell as high resistance to temperatures andvery good non-stick properties. If the chemi-cals being used and the operating tempera-tures allow it, then some configurations orstructural shapes can also be manufacturedfrom the PP und PE polyolefines. The pro-duction takes place with specially developedtools, or with welding machines that aremonitored by computer for jig welding.

Construction Design and documentation

The following main groups of heatexchangers can be differentiated:

• Shell and tube heat exchangers • Suspended or plug-in heat exchangers • Multiple heat exchangers • Modular heat exchangers • Round heat exchangers• Mini-heat exchangers

Each of these configurations or structuralshapes has its special advantages, so thatthey are designed and offered for specificuses. The hose geometries can also beadapted to the special pressure ratios, inaddition to the configurations or structuralshapes. Furthermore, individually develo-ped configurations or structural shapes arerealizable for special applications.

The heat exchangers are designed withthe aid of computers (CAD) on the basis of information from the specific customer. The customer receives all of the necessaryinformation about the connecting pipe-work and the processing design, in additi-on to the heat calculations and CAD drawings. Extra components like for example connecting pipework, strainersand pressure-control valves are offered.

All results from the pressure tests and confirmations of the computer-aided welding parameters, as well as the rele-vant documents about operating the heat exchangers, are available.

pure media and the purest media becausethis welding process avoids dead spaceswhich can lead to bacterial contaminationfor example. All of the IR welds are compu-ter-aided and the welding parameters of allthe connections are documented. In additi-on, all heat exchangers are pressure-testedinternally and externally.

The Polytetraflon® shell and tube heatexchangers are manufactured with aninternal passage and an external passageas standard. They are fabricated by beingcompletely jig-welded in the sealed confi-guration or structural shape. Configurati-ons or structural shapes that are openableon one side or both sides can be realizedby the utilization of fixed or loose flangedconnections. The utilization of changeablemultiple tubes is also possible in this case.

As a result, the external medium is notconducted in the internal hoses directlybut guided and conducted through a late-ral connecting ring on the side around thesheathing tube. The mechanical loading isreduced on the hoses because of that andthe service life is increased.

The position and the type of lateral con-nections can be designed for the specificcustomer. The connections for the internalpassage of media can be fitted straight orlaterally outgoing with connections whichare designed for the specific customer.

Shell and tube heat exchangers consistof an external shell tube and internalmultiple hoses which consist of a largenumber of hoses of small nominal dia-meter. The internal hoses are welded intwo perforated bases, which are thenwelded to the external shell tube. Thefirst medium flows through the externalshell tube and the second mediumflows through inside the hoses. The hotter medium is cooled down and the cooler medium is heated up in this operation.

The number of external and internal passa-ges can vary while doing so, according tothe application. The media are mainly con-ducted in the counterflow or cross-coun-terflow, in order to achieve an optimumtransfer of heat.

The Polytetraflon® shell and tube heatexchangers are manufactured completelyfrom the PFA, ECTFE and PVDF fluoropla-stics as well as the PP polyolefine. Possiblecontamination by other materials is pre-vented because of that.

All of the welded connections for conduc-ting the media internally are manufacturedin the contactless IR butt-welding process:this is particularly important when using

5HEAT EXCHANGERS

These multiple heat exchangers are aspecial form of the shell and tube heatexchanger. The external shell tube is utilized as a perforated protective tube inthis case or it can be omitted completely. The medium is conducted in two passa-ges through the hoses; the deviationtakes place in one of the end caps whichis designed as a floating head.

The heat exchangers are particularly suit-able for vertical or horizontal installation incontainers, whenever the space availableis limited. The fastening can take place forthe specific application on manholes orappropriate tubular supports by means offlanged connections, screwed connecti-ons or jig-welded connections.

The suspended and plug-in heat exchangersare completely manufactured from PFA,ECTFE, PVDF or PP. Exchange surfacesand dimensions are designed for the specific customer, as are the type andposition of the screwed connections too.

This version of the multiple heatexchanger is particularly suitable forsmall baths or whenever the space avai-lable is limited. High outputs in the smal-lest space can be realized, on account ofthe good ratio between the exchangesurface and space required in connectionwith a thin-walled hose.

They can be designed in a U shape withone passage or in a square shape withseveral passages. The heat exchangerscan be installed not only in the floor con-struction but also in the wall construction. The connecting pipework and type of con-nections are designed for the specific cus-tomer. The dimensions can be designedfor the specific customer. The multiple-

surface heat exchangers are manufacturedfrom the PFA, ECTFE, PVDF and PP materials. Reinforcing frames are fabricatedfrom PTFE for the special shapes madefrom PFA.

Thermoron®

modular heat exchangers

6 HEAT EXCHANGERS

Plastics with unlimited possibilities -Made in Germany-

Thermoron® modular heat exchangersare used for the cooling or heating ofaggressive liquids in containers. Theyare completely manufactured from thePVDF, PP and PE materials: whereby afurther area of use is covered regardingresistance to chemicals and temperatures.

These heat exchangers are manufacturedfrom individual hose modules and stand-ardized components. The hose modulesconsist of hose spirals, which are insertedinto rails and jig-welded with speciallydeveloped hose connections to speciallyconstructed welding and assembling devi-ces. These hose modules are then fitted toa rigid frame, into which the medium´ssupply and discharge pipelines are integra-ted. The modular rails are screwed to theframe and the hose connections are wel-ded into the frame´s parts which conductthe media. The most varied dimensionsand exchange surfaces are thus realizablein a compact and very rigid construction bymeans of the modular construction. The

standard modules are manufactured in foursizes and they can now be combined indi-vidually: as a result, exchange surfacesfrom 0.4 sq.m. to 45 sq.m. are allowed byup to three modules next to or over eachother and up to ten layers.

The position and the type of holding devi-ces and the connecting pipework can bedesigned for the specific customer. Theheat exchanger can be provided for moun-ting on a wall or floor. Weights againstfloating and protective plates againstmechanical damage in the process arepossible as options.

Every single hose module as well as thecomplete heat exchanger is pressure-tested.

Special configurations or structural shapesof other geometries are possible on enquiry.
