The call came after an overseas Filipino worker and a Japanese tour- ist became the latest victims of the alleged scam at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport. “This is becoming an interna- tional embarrassment,” Congress- man Sherwin Gatchalian, vice-chair- man of the committee on tourism in the House of Representatives, said in a statement. A similar proposal for an investi- gation was earlier made at the Senate by Senator Ralph Recto, who stressed the need for authorities to step in because “agencies operating (at the airport) have failed to curb the abuses on their own. “There is no working system that is guarding the guards,” he said in a statement. Under the scam, bullets are alleg- edly dropped in the luggage of passengers while they go through the security checks at the airport. Loh’s disability did not stop his fitness journey which started after working in KL for a year. His previous colleague, Michelle Chan was the one who inspired and motivated him by sharing her fitness journey with him every day. At that time, Loh was so overweight that he lost his confidence and that also got him started on exercise. “I joined a gym and within three months I went from 75kg to 57kg. Loh was doing running, cycling and cardio at the beginning and after three to four months, he joined a group exercise class. A year after that, he began learning to build muscle. “It was very difficult. I could see new gym members achieving nice bodies, but it is different for me. I have to learn how to do it on my own. I did a lot of research and found a harness which I ordered from US to help me with weight training,” Loh said. “My previous personal trainer helped me a lot and taught me balance. Although a personal trainer could guide me, everything depends on me. For example, it is difficult to do leg squats. I have to use my shoulder to balance the bar which already weighs 20kg on top of weights up to 50kg.” Loh joins runs and marathons very often, and has done more than 50 runs. His first obstacle run was The Reebok One Challenge. It was a hard decision for Loh whether or not to join it. He has done half (21km) and full (42km) marathons as well as running events but it was time to challenge himself. “Reebok was very surprised and contacted me to be sure I wanted to join as the run is very difficult. It requires teamwork as I can’t go through all the obstacles like climbing walls and crossing the monkey bar on my own,” Loh said.
