1 THEWEEK@SAINTBENEDICT Dear parents and carers, Welcome to another week at Saint Benedict. Recently, the Diocese has written to all schools to ask them to review their emergency evacuation systems to include a lock down procedure in schools. As you will be aware we now have staff on the crossroads and the front gate at all times, however over the next few weeks in line with Diocese policy we plan to introduce a lock down procedure which would come into effect in the event of any unwanted intruders on the school site or even a stray dog, or a local toxic chemical spillage etc. We do not wish to cause alarm or to overreact to events happening nationally, however I am sure you will agree that in the interests of keeping our children as safe as possible, we need to ensure that our procedures can accommodate every eventuality. Thank you to those of you who attended our Art exhibition last week and well done to the students who produced such a high standard of work and the staff who have given them tremendous support along the way. Our Year 13 leaversevent at Horsley Lodge on Friday was a lovely occasion and we wish all of the students the very best for the future and look forward to seeing them again when they pick up their exam results in August. We have another busy week ahead and we are looking forward to welcoming our new Year 7 parents on Tuesday, our Summer Concert on Wednesday from 7pm and our Year 11 prom at Pride Park on Saturday. We have made a number of new appointments recently which I would like to update you on. Last week we were delighted to welcome Mrs J Burton to the school as Director of Learning Humanities, and in September there will be a number of other new appointments joining us. These include:- Mr D Browne Maths Teacher; Mr T Clayton, English Teacher; Mrs A Johnson – SENCO; Mr S Brass – Science Teacher; Dr E Burguin Director of Learning Modern Foreign Languages and Ms T Astill – Director of Learning ERB. At the end of term, very sadly, we will be saying goodbye to a number of staff who will be leaving us, some of whom after a considerable amount of service to the school. These include: Mrs A Muldoon – Assistant Headteacher; Miss L Passmore – Assistant Headteacher; Mr F Chauhan – ICT Teacher, Mrs R Bushby – English Teacher; Mrs C Pass – English Teacher; Mr G Cornwell – Science Teacher. All have gone on to either retirement or promotions elsewhere and we wish them all the very best. After many years at the school, Mrs C Wake will be stepping down from the Senior Leadership team, but I am delighted to report that she will continue to work in the school as a Maths teacher. Mrs A Galletly and Mrs V Hall will be joining the team as Assistant Headteachers. Just a reminder that on the last day of term, Tuesday 25 July 2017, the buses will leave the school site at 1.30 pm, therefore your children will be arriving home early. Enjoy the rest of your week. THEWEEK@SAINTBENEDICT

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to another week at Saint Benedict.

Our Year 13 leavers’ event at Horsley Lodge on Friday was a lovely occasion and we wish all of the students the very best for the future and look forward to seeing them again when they pick up their exam results in August.

These include:- Mr D Browne Maths Teacher; Mr T Clayton, English Teacher; Mrs A Johnson – SENCO; Mr S Brass – Science Teacher; Dr E Burguin – Director of Learning Modern Foreign Languages and Ms T Astill – Director of Learning ERB.
