‘things successful people do’

The humble opinion of a young woman who has been lucky enough to meet and work with some of the most exceptional and

successful people. A young woman who will be forever grateful for the influential mentors whom have inspired her, challenged her

and pushed her to along the way. It is because of those mentors, she will gracefully and pridefully pay it forward.

Page 2: Things Successful People Do

hello, i’m chrissy stanojev.This started as a rant. A rant about the influx of emails I receive from business websites about "Things Successful People Do." But it never ends there, we have "Things Successful People Do on Weekends," Things Successful People Do Before 8 am," Things Successful People Do During Their Lunch Break, "Things Successful People on Sundays," etc. I could continue; however, I will spare you.

There are many "Things Successful People SHOULD Do," and those that do "do" should be recognized. As I mentioned, this started as a rant; however, it materialized into research and fact finding and ended up featuring a person who does extraordinary “things successful people should do” in a commentary written by yours truly.

Page 3: Things Successful People Do

hello, rant.On Sunday morning as I sat enjoying my Veranda Blend coffee, my iPhone (((buzzed))) away with countless emails alerts; emails in which I clearly felt obligated to check. <hangs head in shame>. Not much to my surprise, the emails were not urgent and they did not require my attention. However, I couldn’t help but notice three of which were back-to-back and had the following subject lines:

[Things Successful People Do on Weekends][Things Successful People Do on Sundays][Things Successful People Do to Start Their Work Week]

Really??? All that on a Sunday morning???

Page 4: Things Successful People Do

So, of course, I chose to open and read each one. They had to have value. These are “Things Successful People Do,” and I want to be successful. Who doesn’t? Sadly, I found things like this:

And then I immediately found myself mourning the loss of the 2 minutes and 36 seconds of my life I was never going to get back.

Thing 1// Make a To-Do List {wow, never thought of that}Thing 2// Have a Positive Attitude {another shocker}Thing 3// Have a Plan & Goals {Plan? Goals? I’m not impressed}

Page 5: Things Successful People Do

Success is the Goal. The path is unknown no matter how well planned but a Plan is necessary. Bottom line, find a way to get there. Work hard. Challenge Yourself. Know you may not win the first time or first five times.

Just don't waste your time reading articles about “Things successful people do” in the morning or on weekends or on Sundays. INSTEAD FIND A MENTOR & FIND YOURSELF AND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU ALONG THE WAY.

You might as well turn on Scooby Doo and watch Fred beacon the Mystery Machine Van equipment so it alerts his smartphone when someone moves something without his approval. You'll actually learn a little something.

caveats + shout-outs + love

I truly appreciate the majority of the insightful and thought-provoking content the following outlets bring to the business and entrepreneurial community {HBR I heart you}. However, even those in love quarrel and then they make up or re-subscribe when they realize they've made a rash decision.

And so today we quarrel. Harvard Business Review, Fast Company, Forbes, Business Insider why are you producing these endless lists of “Thing Successful People Do” when you have the reach and ability to connect people in such meaningful and influential ways. Mentors with Proteges. Interns with internships. You have the ability to be Opportunity Drivers. Suggesting I keep a daily prioritized to-do list or a positive attitude is mediocre at best and we all know not a single one of you is mediocre; so, show us your best. Practice what you preach.

Super special shout-outs to The Huffington Post [@huffpostbiz] for their 2013 article “16 Wildly Successful People Who Overcame Huge Obstacles To Get There” and Business Insider [@businessinsider] for their 2014 article “23 Incredibly Successful People Who Failed At First" article.

I won’t explain the value of these articles. I will simply suggest you add them to your "Great Articles" Flipboard magazine for future reference or print them and hang them somewhere you can see them.

Because the truth is we are all going to fail at some point. Failure does not mean the end; however, at that moment you fail and you feel defeated, you will feel like it is the end and you may not see the light shining bright at the end of tunnel and you may choose to throw in the towel. If so, shame on you. You should have clicked +flipit or print, taken a moment to ground yourself and jumped back on the horse. This is but a moment in time. The next moment is waiting for you; don’t it past you by.

Lastly, I’m sending some love to Mashable [@mashable] <<I appreciate you not only because you are amazing, funny and cool but bc you were smart enough to employ the incredible Samantha Murphy [@heysamantha] >> On a separate note, the article, “21 Decisions You Will Immediately Regret” literally made me laugh uncontrollably. That therapeutic laugh that rejuvenates you and some how oddly enough reaches it's peak and no longer makes sound. That type of laugh that needs the cool-down sigh. Thank you.

And I digress, back to one of the many ways in which you can waste many of the precious moments in your life that you will never get back, the "Things Successful People Do On/In/During _____" articles that have minimal value.

Those people are successful because they were diligent and passionate enough to find out what works for THEM. They did so by reading books that challenged their beliefs. They surrounded themselves with successful people. They were humble. They listened. They learned. They finally recognized that patience truly is a virtue and that mentors and role models are pinnacle components of their success. They fostered and respected the value of the relationships they were fortunate to develop with those that saw greatness within them. The mentors, role models and influencers that paved ways, cleared brush and provided opportunities for the diligent and passionate to have opportunities to experience success. And it is and will continue to be those proteges that perpetuate the same values forward and will serves as mentors in the future.

Mentors like Keith Leaphart [@docpreneur215] Google him.

What I'm about to tell you is only the tip of the iceberg;

however, I have provided additional information about Mr.

Leaphart at the end of this commentary if you would like to

learn more about him and I strongly recommend you do.

Mr. Leaphart is the Owner & Brand Manager at Replica

Creative. He describes himself as a physician by training;

entrepreneur by birth. He decided to abandon medicine and

follow his heart. He opened Replica Creative in Philadelphia.

Then not long after, he then opened the Creative Cafe

@Replica and most recently hosted a “#DreamCup”

campaign. Not only was it brilliant, all of it, but it

connected the diligent and the passionate with the

successful people they admired for a cup of coffee and

a conversation that could possibly change their life.

In a recent philly.com interviewmr. leaphart was asked....

Any last words of advice for personal growth?

Page 18: Things Successful People Do

“Get a great team of mentors.  Sometimes people look for mentors in the same space that they’re in but sometimes it’s better to look for mentors outside of the space you’re in.  If you’re an aspiring person in the insurance industry, sure it’s great to have someone from the industry tell you about what to expect.  But it’s also great to have people outside of that who just know about business and who don’t look at you as competition.  Be committed to something.  Do what you say you’re going to do.  Have integrity.  And just as much as your business brand is important, your personal brand is just as important.”
