Things to Think About When Buying a Persian

Rug

A handmade Persian rug, while expensive, is usually made out of high quality, hand-dyed materials, such as wool or silk, and can last up to 80 years.

Machine-made Persian rugs are considerably cheaper, but generally less durable because they are made from man-made fibers.

A machine-made rug made from wool, however, can last up to 20 years.

Ask What It’s Made Of

Loud, bright, and bold rugs are beautiful and can add life and dimension to a room.

If your room is already brightly colored, or if it has a large number of statement pieces already, considered a more muted color pallet for your Persian rug.

While you may think you want a festive rug, if you are going to invest money in a high-quality Persian rug, you want to be sure it will actually look good with the rest of your décor.

Examine Your Space

You may have fallen in love with the pattern and colors of a Persian rug, but if the size of the rug is too big or too small it just will not look right.

Choose the room you want to put your Persian rug in, rearrange the furniture how you want it, then decide how big you want your rug to be.

If your rug is going under other furniture, make sure it is big enough so it can still be seen prominently.

Buy The Right Size

Buy a rug pad. Rug pads help prevent friction so the rug does not wear out as fast.

Use a regular vacuum nozzle to vacuum your rug. A power brush can cause raking which will wear out the top of your Persian rug faster.

Use a solution that is three parts vinegar and one part water to clean your Persian rug. It is hard to get soap out of a Persian rug without hosing it down, which can cause fading and discoloration.
