Dear Couple,

To fulfill the requirement for pre-marriage instruction you may choose to participate in the Marriage Series

taught by Thom and Sue Keller, and a sit down session with the officiating pastor. If the timing of the marriage

series does not coordinate with the wedding date, two or three Sit-down Sessions may be required with the

officiating pastor.

The Marriage Series: What does God say about marriage, will meet at Calvary Chapel Lebanon, 740 Willow

Street, Lebanon PA 17046. It takes place each January in the sanctuary for 6 sessions or watch the marriage

series online. Please request a marriage series booklet if watching online.

Completion of the marriage series or 2-3 sit down sessions is mandatory for any marriage to be performed by a

Calvary Chapel Lebanon pastor. If you are unable to complete this, please speak to your officiating pastor.

In addition to the pre-marriage instruction, premarital counseling may be requested at the discretion of the

Pastor.

In light of the seriousness of our decision for marriage, our commitment to one another, and our understanding

that instruction, discussion and communication will enhance the success of our marriage, we affirm that we will

participate in … (circle one) the MARRIAGE SERIES or the SIT DOWN SESSIONS with the officiating pastor. The

assigned pastor may ask you to do both.

Additionally, we give our permission to be contacted/reminded of this commitment.

After you have received approval from the pastor for your marriage to take place, then it is okay to make plans for things such as reception, marriage license, etc.

After approval, call the church office to schedule your wedding day on the calendar.

There are three important preliminary issues when discussing marriage God’s way.

#1 – has to do with whether you and your fiancé share the same spiritual beliefs.

#2 - has to do with sexual purity or abstinence before marriage.

#3 – has to do with divorce.

In Paul’s second letter to the Corinthian church he states, “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers for what do

righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony

is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?” 2 Corinthians

6:14-15 This means that God forbids a Christian from marrying a non-Christian. It also means that as a body of

believers in the truth of the Bible we will not marry a believer and a non-believer. Based on this Truth, please

answer the following questions to issue#1:

Would you say that your fiancé has accepted Christ? Yes No Unsure

If you answered “yes”, please explain how you know this about your fiancé. ____________________________

The writer of Hebrews says in chapter 13, “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure,

for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.” Hebrews 13:4 Our Holy God designed sex to be a

gift exclusively for marriage. However, the Bible is clear in viewing sex prior to marriage as sin. For our part as

Pastors, it is important that you are in agreement with our biblical view of this issue. Based on this Truth, please

answer the questions to issue #2:

Have you ever been sexually active with your fiancée? Yes No

Are you currently sexually active with your fiancé? Yes No

Are you living together? Yes No

Our last section deals with divorce. We view each divorce situation on an individual basis. Some variables that

merit our church’s approval are from the gospel of Matthew, chapter 19. “I tell you that anyone who divorces his

wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman, commits adultery.” Matthew 19:9 Another

area could be where an unbeliever divorces a believer, as stated in 1 Corinthians. “But if the unbeliever leaves, let

him do so. A believing man or woman is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace.” 1

Corinthians 7:15 Based on this Truth, please answer the questions to issue #3.

Have you been previously married and divorced? Yes No If you answered “no” please go to the next section. If you

answered “yes” please answer the following questions:

When were you divorced? ______________________________

Were you a believer at the time of your divorce?___________________

Was your ex-spouse a believer at the time of the divorce?_________________
