The majority of veterans make a smooth transition from military to civilian life, but it is too easy for ex-Service personnel, especially younger veterans and Early Service Leavers, to slip throughthe net and end up homeless.

But solutions are available, and we believe if some simple changes are made, we can reduce homelessness among veterans as close to zero as possible.

As signatories to the Armed Forces Covenant we take our responsibilities to the veterans community very seriously – we want to make it as straightforward as possible for them to apply for housing.

When someone approaches alocal authority in housing need, it is vital to establish if that person has served in the Armed Forces so they can access the enhanced provision that is available to them.

We’d like local authorities to consider how best to meet the veteran’s housing needs – whether by arranging accommodation or referring to the veterans' sector for specialist support.
