PMP III … The Materials Processing Technology ForumWhy Attend PMP III?
PMP-III will promote information dissemination and exchange, and fruitful collaborations, on state-of-the-art materials processing technologies being developed around the globe. The focus will be on prominent materials processing technologies, materials properties and applications, and the process-structure-property pathway. This conference will build upon PMP-I, held in 1993 in Honolulu, Hawaii, and PMP-II, held in 2000 in San Francisco, California.
Technical ScopeAt the advent of the 21st century, materials processing technology has broadened from the traditional melting, forming, casting and electrolytic processes into the modern, automated, rapid processing methods as well as nanotechnologies, appearing in a variety of materials manufacturing industries. These technologies are dependent upon intensive computational analysis and are conceptually focused on “clean” technology. Many of these innovative processing techniques are being developed with future generations in mind. Through these novel processing technolo-gies, superior materials properties are being pursued, developed and designed for specific applications and require-ments in diverse industrial and consumer products. These high performance materials require efficient and optimum processing technologies that have to be manufactured at reasonable costs with the least environmental burden. Thus, the desire to develop the best processing technologies resulting in exceptional materials properties has required an extensive increase in interdisciplinary linkages and communication among different materials processing disciplines as well as among different segments of the processing industries and materials product manufacturers. Visit www.tms.org/meetings/specialty/pmp08 for the complete technical program.
Invited Speakers Professor Yasuhiro Awakura, Kyoto University; President, MMIJ, Japan Topic: Physical Chemistry of Aqueous Processing on Materials Surface

TravelFor Thailand and Bangkok travel information, visit the Tourism Authority of
Thailand Web site at www.tourismthailand.org.
Airport Transfer: TaxisPublic metered taxi is the most economical taxi. You can request a taxi at the counter on Level 1, outside the airport terminal. The arrival hall is on Level 2. You will pay a surcharge (less than $2) on the metered amount when taking a taxi from the airport plus any toll fee.The Airport Authority also operates a taxi service. You can request a taxi at the Authority’s counter near the airport terminal exit. The Authority’s taxis have a fixed rate depending on your destination. The rate is approximately double the amount you would pay for a public metered taxi.Limousine services are also available.
Under no circumstances should you accept a ride from any touts or “unofficial” taxi services.
Getting Around Bangkok:
SkyTrain and Subway Systems — Many popular destinations can be reached by skytrain or the subway systems. The cost is low; the fare charged depends on the traveling destination.
Taxi — Taxis are economical and air conditioned. All taxis are metered and have a red and white TAXI-METER sign on the roof and yellow license plates.
Car — Driving yourself is not recommended. You can rent a car and driver for approximately $25 a day.
Boat — Many tourist sites are accessible from the Chao Phraya River by traveling on the Express Boat. Fares are low, less than $1. Piers are located next to many of the riverside hotels. You can ride the skytrain to the Taksin Bridge station. A River Express pier is located below the station. Someone is usually on duty at the pier to sell tickets and help plan your trip. The boats can be dangerously crowded during peak traffic times. For safest travel, avoid rush hours.
