ST. PETER PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

We, the believers of St. Peter Parish, having our beginnings as the earliest Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of New Orleans on the Northshore, in response to God's call, come together:

to love God and one another to worship as a faith community to be God's hands, heart and mind and to provide for our community's spiritual and

physical needs

In doing this, we glorify God and help realize His reign on earth. While rejoicing in the experience of our pilgrimage, we must ever keep in mind our ultimate destination through our faithful stewardship of time, talent and treasure. Called to be a prayerful and hospitable Catholic family of living faith, we welcome and invite all people to share in our unique gifts of the Holy Spirit.

March for Life, Washington , D.C.

St. Peter CYO would like to thank all who attended the “Evening for Life” or donated to support those attending the March for Life In Washington, D.C. It is important that St. Peter continue to send youth to represent the Parish in an effort to protect all life from conception to natural death. We have been able to provide approximately $125 per attendee thus far, through fundraising. The trip is expensive, $595, and many of our youth work or fundraise on their own to make the trip. If you would like to sponsor a child or donate to offset some of the cost, we would be most grateful. Checks can be made out to St. Peter Church, and brought to the rectory or mailed to St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 E. 19th Ave., Covington, LA 70433. Please indicate the donation is for the March for Life trip. For further information, call the St. Peter CYO office: 985.892.8994. Thank you.

BAPTISMAL PREPARATION St. Peter Baptismal Preparation for infants consists of one mandatory session that par-ents and godparents are required to attend. Parents are encouraged to call the rec-tory, 985.892.2422, three months before the expected birth date to register for class.

The next seminar is Wednesday, January 2nd from 6:00—7:15 p.m. in the Upper Room, 318 S. Jefferson Ave. The Rite of Baptism will be scheduled after the class has been attended and all documents are submitted.

Would you like to Honor our Blessed Mother?

Volunteers are needed to lead parishioners in praying the Rosary before the 4 p.m. Saturday Vigil

Mass. At 3:30 p.m. the Rosary is led from the pulpit. All that is needed is a willingness to help and a desire to pray the Rosary for Our Lady. Those interested, please call the Rectory at 985.892.2422.

Stewardship

Third Sunday of Advent- December 16th:

In today’s Gospel John the Baptist says, “Whoever has two cloaks should share with the person who has none. And whoever has food should do likewise…” Christmas is a time of love and gift giving...please share your abundance by giving a gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so those who do not have clothes and food can share in the blessings of Christmas.

WILL YOU PRAY A ROSARY FOR OUR BELOVED PRIESTS

IN 2019?

Christ continues to love us and be pre-sent for us through the hands of His holy priests! Fr. Otis and Fr. Colm have

offered their lives to God as a sacrifice for us, His people. They depend on our prayerful support to live faithfully their vocation in the midst of many challenges.

Please consider offering a Rosary for FR. OTIS AND FR. COLM

as a gift in appreciation for their priestly ministry.

In the back of church there is a calendar to sign your name on the date you have chosen to pray for them. There are reminder slips for your convenience. On that day pray the rosary for Fr. Otis and Fr. Colm ask-ing God for special graces for them to persevere in their priestly vocations. Thank you!

“The priesthood is the love of the heart of Jesus.” ~St. John Marie Vianney

Rosary Sign-up for The Holy Souls in Purgatory

Would you or your family like to sign-up to pray a rosary for “The Holy Souls in Purgatory”?

All parishioners are invited to pray a rosary for the Souls in Purgatory as often as possible during the year. This rosary may be said for your dear departed family members, friends, or anyone, even those unknown to you, whom you wish to include in this Act of Charity. The sign-up sheet is in the back of church. Thank you for sharing in this special gift to all the “Holy Souls in Purgatory”

Poor Box Envelopes can be found in a holder near the private confessional in back of church. Please place donations in the collection basket or drop off at the rectory. Thank you.

Retrouvaille Weekend for Troubled Marriages

Retrouvaille is a program designed to provide help and support to married couples who are undergoing difficulties in their relationship. Sponsored by the Catholic Church, Retrouvaille is open to couples of all faiths. It has proven helpful to couples who are trou-bled and stressed, or if the relationship has grown cold and distant. The next Retrouvaille Weekend will be January 11-13, 2019, at the William J. Kelly Retreat Center in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. For registration or additional information, please go to the Retrou-vaille website https://www.helpourmarriage.org/ or email [email protected].

DID YOU KNOW? The Louisiana Commodities Supplemental Food Program (LA CSFP) is one of forty-three CSFP state programs nationwide. It is currently the third largest CSFP in the country. The sole agency, Food for Families/Food for Seniors, can serve a maximum of 68,085 clients per month.

The CSFP is designed to improve the diets and health of low-income persons at least sixty years of age.

All residents of Louisiana who meet the income requirements and other eligibility requirements may participate in CSFP. Currently, CSFP operates food distribution operations in every parish in the State, except Plaquemines and St. Bernard. However, these residents can participate in CFSP if they are able to travel to a food site in another parish.

Senior citizens who are unable to travel to one of the food sites, or lack friends, family, or neighbors who can pick up a food box, may be eligible for a volunteer to deliver a monthly food box to their home.

The commodities come from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to locations where returning citizens box them up for distribution to sites throughout the State. One of the barriers returning citizens face upon release from jail is find-ing a job. If we educate folks about this program and increase participation, we are helping to create jobs for return-ing citizens. It’s a win-win for all involved!!!

Won’t you please pass the word to your family, friends, and neighbors? For more information about the program, please visit: www.ccano.org/food-for-seniors/ or call Tim Robertson at 504.245.7207.
