Principal’s Message

It’s a boy! Congratulations to Ms Moutos and her partner on the birth of Seth Paul last week. Mother, father and baby all doing well. This is the last newsletter for 2014, so please take note of the coming events, or log in to our website, which I hope to have updated by the end of the week.

Year 6 Farewell

Once again this was a memorable evening, with all our girls and boys looking more like ladies and gentlemen. Well done to all who assisted with the organisation, and keep an eye on our website for some pictures.

School Captains

Lachlan and Brooke

Gold Medal Assembly

Well done to the following students who have received our school’s highest awards for achievement, effort and citizenship: Gold Banners Elise, Alexandra, Bethany, Johnny, Brooklyn, Colby, Katie, Laine, Finlay, Kirra, Erin, Annise, Taylor, Monique R, Kayla, Caitlyn, James, Jasmine, Harry, Piper, Tayla, Anna, Sarah, Josh, Lara B, Ella, Lara J, Thomas, Monique M, Julie, Gabby, Angus and Maddison. Gold Medals Alexandra, Bethany, Kirra, Erin, Annise, Taylor, Harry, Brooklyn, Piper, Josh and Monique M.

Our Assembly Hall has a New Name

Our special guest for Gold Medal Assembly was Mrs Sandra Saunderson. Her husband John was Assistant Principal of our school several years ago when I first arrived as Principal. He sadly passed away earlier this year after a long and courageous battle with cancer. At his funeral, the staff and I agreed that honouring his memory in our hall would be a fitting tribute for a teacher who had a keen passion for drama and performing arts. John would often write plays for his classes and perform in them himself. At our Gold Medal Assembly, Sandra unveiled a plaque renaming our hall as “The John Saunderson Assembly Hall”

Time to Say Goodbye

The end of the school year also rings the end of career for two of our staff. We wish Mr Berwick and Mrs Rofe all the best as they embark on their retirements. In addition, Miss Jackson has been permanently appointed as a teacher to The Oaks Public School, starting next term. We thank her for her contribution to Thirlmere.

Find out more: http://www.dsr.nsw.gov.au/swimandsurvive/about.asp Another year over, and I thank you all for the privilege and honour of serving as your Principal. We are about to enter a time when Christians around the world celebrate the birth of Jesus and the hope that this event brought to the world more than two thousand years ago. No matter what your personal beliefs are, I hope that the next few weeks offer you the opportunity to enjoy valuable time with family and friends, and benefit from the wonderful circumstances that our country gives us. The events of the last day or so in Martin Place remind us of how we must never take our freedom for granted. It is something to cherish and celebrate. I wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and a safe holiday. See you in 2015. Stephen Lord
