MASSES FOR THE WEEK

Page 4: THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME NOVEMBER 10, 2019 · M — Julian Szczygieł - 1 r. śm., November 15, 2019 8:30 A.M. — ... It is NOT acceptable to walk away and then consume

We are nearing the end of the liturgical

year. Today’s readings remind us that our

own lives will draw to a close one day,

and we can be certain that the Lord will

encourage, strengthen, and save us—

both now and at the last. The astonishing

story of the Maccabees invigorates our faith

as we behold an entire family willing to die

rather than deny the Law of Moses.

The psalm response echoes the faithful cries

of the Maccabees: “I call upon you, for you

will answer me, O God.” That same

confidence appears in Saint Paul’s letter

to the Thessalonians. “The Lord is faithful,”

he testifies; “he will strengthen you and

guard you from the evil one.” In the Gospel,

Jesus explains just how long God’s

protection will endure. The children of God

whom God guards, Jesus says,

will live forever like angels.

I n t h e s e v e n t e e n t h c e n t u r y ,

English Catholics, many of them wealthy

and well educated, looked to the

American colonies as a place to regain a

measure of religious freedom. In Ireland, the

so-called penal laws were even harsher

than in England, as a minority Parliament

tried to force the conversion of the

population by denying the majority political

and economic power. Beginning in 1691,

laws were passed that punished dissenters,

principally Catholics, but also causing

hardship for Jews, Quakers, and others.

T h e r e w e r e a c t s f o r b i d d i n g

“mixed marriage” or sending children

“beyond the seas” for schooling. Catholics

were taxed at double the common rate,

barred from the legal professions and from

university, and not allowed to build

churches or own a decent horse.

In 1793 the situation began to change,

as it became clear that the economic

persecution would not drive the majority

away from Catholicism. Gradually,

laws were repealed until by 1829 freedom

was won, although Catholics at university

were ineligible for honors, and until

the 1920s when the Republic was formed,

the Church of Ireland was the state church,

funded by the taxes of all citizens.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

CONFIDENCE IN THE

LORD

IMPORTANT

When receiving Holy

Communion in the hand, YOU MUST CONSUME THE

HOST IMMEDIATLY BEFORE

you turn away from

the minister.

It is NOT acceptable to walk away and then

consume.

As a sign of respect for Our Lord,

you SHOULD NEVER RECEIVE THE HOST WITH

ONE HAND.

If a disability prevents you from receiving

with both hands, you should receive

the Sacrament on the tongue.

ST. VINCENT DEPAUL SOCIETY

Next Sunday the St. Vincent DePaul

Society will be conducting the

monthly parish food dr ive.

Donations may be brought during

all the masses. If you should be unable to

donate food items at this time, you may want to

consider making a cash donation in the St.

Vincent DePaul poor box. Your continued

support is greatly appreciated.

ST. VINCENT DEPAUL SOCIETY

The St. Vincent DePaul Society will be

handing out Christmas slips again this

year in order to provide gifts for the

needy children of St. Thomas of Canterbury parish in

the Uptown neighborhood. For many children these

will be the only gifts they will receive. Vincentians will

be in the church foyer the weekends of November

23 and 24 and November 30 and December 1

during all the masses handing out names of needy

children in order for parishioners to purchase gifts for

them. Please return your gifts during the masses on

December 7 and 8 so they can be taken down to St.

Thomas to insure delivery by Christmas.

Again, we wish to thank everyone for their

overwhelming response to this very special project.

HELP WITH

CHRISTMASS TREES

This upcoming Christmas season we would

like to ‘upgrade’ our Christmas decorations.

Most of our artificial Christmas trees are very

old - broken stands, missing branches and

parts, ripped and nonfuctional lights...

If you have a slightly used Christmas tree,

or if you would like to donate towards the

purchase of a new tree, we would be very

grateful.

For more information, please speak with

Kamil Duda, our music director, after any

Mass.

NIEDZIELA XXXII NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA

Boże, zmiłuj się nad nami,

pobłogosław, udziel łaski,

Niechaj znowu oglądamy,

Twe Oblicze pełne blasku.

Niechaj sławią Cię narody,

Niechaj sławią Cię narody wszystkie.

Ziemia plony już wydała

Bóg nam dał błogosławieństwo

Niech rozbrzmiewa Jego chwała

W każdym czasie, w każdym miejscu.

Psalm:

Gdy zmartwychwstanę, będę widział Boga.

Cóż Ci Jezu damy

za Twych łask strumienie?

Z serca Ci składamy korne dziękczynienie.

Panie nasz, króluj nam!

Boże nasz, Króluj nam!

Poprzez wieczny czas

króluj Jezu nam.

W Serca Twego ranie, o serc naszych Królu,

Pokój i wytrwanie ukojenie w bólu.

Ty nas wspieraj w znoju,

strzeż przez życie całe,

Byśmy w serc pokoju Twą wielbili chwałę.

Witaj pokarmie w którym niezmierzony

Nieba i ziemie Twórca jest zamkniony

Witaj napoju zupełnie gaszący

Umysł pragnący.

2. Witaj krynico wszystkiego dobrego

Gdy bowiem w sobie masz Boga samego

Znasz ludziom wszystkie jego

wszechmocności

Niesiesz godności.

3. Witaj z niebiosów manno padająca

Rozkoszny w sercu naszym smak czyniąca

Wszystko na świecie co jedno smakuje

W tym się znajduje.

4. Witaj rozkoszne z ogrodu rajskiego

Drzewo owocu pełne żywiącego

Kto cię skosztuje śmierci się nie boi

Choć nad nim stoi.

5. Witaj jedyna serc ludzkich radości

Witaj strapionych wszelka łaskawości

Ciebie dziś moje łzy słodkie szukają

K Tobie wołają.

Zdrowaś Maryja, Boga Rodzico!

Błagamy Ciebie, święta Dziewico:

Niech łaska Twoja zawsze nam sprzyja,

Módl się za nami—Zdrowaś Maryja!

Wśród czystych duchów, w obliczu Pana,

Tyś przenajświętsza, niepokalana.

Jak wspośród kwiatów wonna lilija,

jak wśród gwiazd zorza—Zdrowaś Maryja!
