-NEWSLETTER-

MOVING WITH GOD’S SPIRIT

Next Sunday the congregation will begin again its annual self-examination through our Partners in Mission Program. We will look at the vision of being a congregation which embodies the one, holy, catholic and apostolic church in the Rockhampton region. We will look again at our individual and corporate gifts and graces. We will bring those gifts and graces into the fulfilment of the vision. We will make the necessary financial commitment to support the use of those gifts and graces. Throughout this program we will have as companions the Christians living at Colossae 1952 years ago.

Daily Psalm: Ps. 30: “You hid your face, Lord; I was dismayed.”

Daily Scripture Readings: “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and obey it –“

Mon: Luke 10:1-11,16-20: thankful for the mission of the twelve and for those who, in due time, planted the faith in Jesus expressed in the life of the Church in Capricornia.

Tues: 2 Kings 5:1-14: willing to change a long-held belief about the way God is active in the lives of individuals and nations.

Wed: Colossians 4:7-18: pleased to meet Epaphras, who was always wrestling in his prayers on behalf of those who learned the gospel from him, that they may stand mature.

Thurs: Isaiah 11:1-9: marvelling how our Lord Jesus Christ fulfils the expectation that a descendant of David would be filled with the spirit of wisdom, understanding and knowledge.

Fri: Isaiah 11:10-16: realising that the violence in a nation’s past can so easily set a pattern of future behaviour towards other nations.

Sat: Isaiah 12:1-6: cherishing the hope that nations will want to draw water from the wells of salvation.

We extend a warm welcome to any visitors or newcomers with us today. Please give us an opportunity to get to know you after the Service.

OUR PARISH MISSION STATEMENTSeeking to be an active expression of God’s love in Christ to all people, both within the Rockhampton South Parish and beyond.

Partners in Mission Program 2013Each year in July our congregation is involved in a Partners in Mission Program which culminates in our Thanksgiving Service on the first Sunday in August. This year our theme is -

“PLANTED IN CAPRICORNIA”According to the Uniting Church Basis of Union we believe that –

“the congregation is the embodiment in one place of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.”

Our program is designed to help us better understand what it means to “embody the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church” in the area of our Parish. To do this we will reflect on Paul’s letter to the church at Colossae, where the Christians needed to grow in their understanding of the authority and achievements of Jesus, and how this affected their daily lives as members of the church in Colossae which embodied the universal church. When we are thinking about an idea like “the one holy catholic and apostolic church” many of us like to have a visual image before us.This year our visual aid to thinking will be the banyan tree. Just as this tree was brought to Australia from India and was planted in Capricornia, our forebears brought their Christian faith from overseas and planted it in Capricornia. The banyans we will look at are planted along the Sir Raymond Huish Drive in Victoria Park. They are readily accessible from the road along which there is plenty of parking. It would be a good chance for a Circle of Care group to get together and take a walk that provides exercise for the body, mind and soul. Each week we will look at a different banyan tree and learn more of what Paul can teach us about Jesus and his Church.
