Skibb team 2  v  Bandon team 1 : score 2 - 5

On Sat the 26th Nov 18 Skibb u10 players travelled to Bandon for games against a very largenumber of Bandon u10s (32 players). As the results show the games did'nt go our way it wasstill a very good learning experience for our players as Bandon training twice a week were verywell drilled in all aspects of play , all the Skibb players had to play a full 40 mins of rugby over 2games where as  Bandon had the luxury of bringing on fresh legs as they wished. Every Skibbplayer played with great determination right to the very end & at no time dropped their headseven when the games were going against them.

We showed some very good running, rucking and mauling our one weakness was our tacklingand you know what they say, "a team that tackles never loses"

Hopefully with the Munster Coaches coming down to training next Sat we will get a chance toimprove our tackling.

Skibb. u10's v Bantry

On another lovely Sat. morning for rugby  skibb. u10's took on near neighbours Bantry in alocal darby.skibb.without some of their regular stronger players took to the pitch with greatdetermination & got stuck in from the very begining, both teams playing 12 aside really gave it allwith Bantry scoring 1st, this was soon cancelled out with a great team effort and Liam Hodnettgetting the touch down.  Soon afterwards Matthew Sheehan got a second score for Skibb toleave the half time score at 2 to 1.  the second half continued with the same intensity Bantrygetting 2 scores and Liam Hodnett getting another score for Skibb to finish the game at 3 all.

It was great to see all the skibb players playing so well without the stronger players and justshows how much the whole team has improved this season. This was a very physical, toughgame with a few walking wounded at the end but still enjoyed by all.

Next week we hit the road after a nice run of home games with a long trip to Mitchelstown for ablitz with Mitchelstown and Kinsale.

Team;- Asa Curran, Brian Stout,Conor O Neill, Dylan Young, Tiernan Collins, Joseph Griffiths,Adam O Regan, Jacob Coughlan, Daire Coughlan, Liam Hodnett, James McNulty, Blake Haley,Finin Barrett, Matthew Sheehan, Donna Hutchinson.

Saturday 5th November 2011

What a great morning for rugby ,sun shining & blue skies & with 18 Skibb u10 players on thepitch all playing 40 minutes of rugby what a great morning of rugby.

Skibb fielded 2 u10 teams on sat v Clon

Team 1:- Asa Curran, Conor O Neil,Brian Stout,Adam O Regan,Donnagh Hutchinson,BlakeHaley,Tiernan Collins,Jack Murphy,Fionn O Driscoll.

Team 2:-Dylan Young,Joseph Griffin,Mathew Brosnan,Jack Crowley, Matthew Sheehan, DavidRegan, Liam Hodnett, Jacob Coughlan, James McNulty.

Team 1:-  Clonakilty started with tip off and skibb got straight in to action leading by 3 scores to1 at half time.  In the second half Skibb continued

their form running in 3 more tries finishing at 6 tries to 2.  Overall this was a much improvedperformance of rucking and mauling by Skibb especially with 3 new players playing with thisteam.

Team 2:- Started poorly allowing Clon a very early try.  This seemed to kick start the Skibbteam in to some great rugby with excellent rucking and counter rucking

and very quickly the Skibb team started to get on top and the scores followed leading 3 to 1 athalf time.  In  the second half Skibb's rucking was not as good but we still managed to score 2tries - final score 5 to 1.

After these two games we mixed up the teams a bit and played 2 more matches with Clon andSkibb winning 1 each.

All matches were played in a very clean and sporting manner by all players.

Saturday 22nd October 2011

Skibbereen under 10s played Sunday's Well first on Saturday 22nd Oct in very wet cold andmuddy conditions. These conditions seemed to affect Skibbereen’s play in the first half as weleft in two easy tries due to poor tackling and rucking.  The second half with the wind and rain toour backs a much more determined Skibbereen team took the field and were very quicklyrewarded with a try by Liam Hodnett and after more sustained pressure got a try by JackCrowley.  This led to a draw in the match which was a very fair result on the day.

Our second match was against Tralee and Skibbereen played very well from the beginningand quickly ran up a 5 try lead due to some great team play under poor conditions. Tralee got alate try to leave the final score at 5 - 1.

This was an excellent performance by the panel of 18 players - with all involved on the day.

Panel:- Asa Curran, David Regan, Dylan Young, Brian Stout, Jack Crowley, Matthew Brosnan,Conor O’ Neill Adam O’Regan, Jacob Coughlan, Daire Kavanagh, Liam Hodnett, JamesMcNulty, Blake Haley, Finin Barrett, Matthew Sheehan, Donna Hutchinson, Jack Murphy, FionnO Driscoll

12th. February 2011

Here are the results of today's mini rugby in Clonakilty.  We played a strong looking Muskerryoutfit in our first game on a very sticky pitch, but it soon became obvious that our boys weremore than a step ahead in terms of rugby ability. Displaying a great team work ethic they wereon top from start to finish winning by 6 tries to 2.

After a short break they took on the home side and quickly got into their stride gaining the upperhand and despite slacking off for a period ran out winners 8 tries to nil.

These lads have shown great improvement as the season has gone on with a good attitudetraining but must continue to work hard to progress.Today's panel, Jordie O'Brien,LiamO'Farrell,Neil Cronin,Sam Burchell,Ruben O'Regan,Darren Daly,Finn O'Donovan,PatrickO'Brien,Kieth Whelton,Adam Fanning,Gavin Cronin,Tadhg Hickey,Kealan Stott and Jack Lynch.

19th. February 2011

In a return fixture this week we welcomed Clon to the Brothers field. Conditions were perfect and our boys were again quick to get on top notching  up a few early tries. However Clon werein no mood to be rolled  over this week really getting in amongst our lads. This seemed todisrupt our teamwork and but for a few good individual performances this could have been amuch closer contest. Final score Skibb 10 Clon 1.

Back to the hard graft of training again next week.

5th March 2011

This week we made the long journey across the county bounds to take on the Kerry boysknowing that we were going to be severely tested, and we weren't disappointed as Tralee had abig panel well in excess of 20 players togged out.Their starting 10 contained alot of very bigboys who made most of our lads look like under 8's,however undaunted the lads got stuck rightin and opened the scoring with a well worked try. Tralee came straight back and after a spell ofpressure got  in for an equaliser. This trend continued  as again the lads took the lead only forthe home side to level but with the intreval whistle approaching our lads broke through for a good score which was a huge boost after a tough 15 mins of rugby.

For the second period Tralee had a new 10 starting which worked against them as our lads now

battle hardened quickly took the initiative and ran in 3 good tries. Fearing the worst the homeside reintroduced the big guns and both sides added a try each before the second interval.

The final third saw a real battle as tralee fought to salvage some pride and our lads fighting tomaintain their advantage but no further scores were added leaving it Skibb 7 Tralee 3 at thefinal whistle.

This was a fine hard sporting contest with some very good passages of play and will hopefullystand to the lads as the season goes on.

The boys then tried their hand at a different sport and had a great time at Buddies bowling alleyTralee.

A special  word of thanks to those who drove.

Last Saturday we welcomed our near neighbours Dunmanway on a fine morning for a game, and what a tough game ensued.  The first third saw the visitors slow to settle and our boys took

full advantage to scorch into a four try lead with Dunmanway pulling one back just before theinterval.

Inexplicably the second period saw our boys completely loose their way and Dunmanwayplaying most of the rugby and they outscored our boys two tries to one leaving it five tries tothree at the break.

The final third saw a good even contest but our lads regained a bit of composure and closed outthe game by scoring a further three tries.  Final score Skibbereen 8 Dunmanway 3.  Our boysneed to make a bigger effort inputting their training ground drills and skills into practise duringthese games and credit to Dunmanway who showed plenty of ability and had some goodplayers on view.

Last Saturday saw our lads make another trip to Templehill to face two teams they had alreadycrossed swords with earlier this season.First up was Cork Con A which wasn't ideal as facingthe toughest opposition immediately after a long bus journey was a big test.  Despite losing by 3trys our lads gave a good account of themselves once they got going and but for a few errorsand decisions the outcome could have been different.  Cork Con A 3,Skibb 0

Second up was Cork Con B and this was an immediate chance for redemption and with theboys now fully up to pace they made light work of the opposition to win by 5 trys.  Skibb 5,CorkCon B 0.

Finally they faced the biggest team of the day in Sundays Well and indeed the Well started wellwith the first try,but once our lads levelled matters with a good try the Well boys were beginningto tire and our boys were upping the pace and ran in a further four scores before the finalwhistle.  Skibb 5,Sundays Well 1.

Afterwards our hosts kindly treated all teams to a fine spread of sandwiches  and refreshments.

2nd April 2011

Saturday saw our boys visit Bandon for the second time this season and after a good earliervictory over this opposition the tables were turned on this occasion. Bandon with some newfaces in their ranks were really up for this one and were well prepared to go to any length for thewin. Their tackling and teamwork was ,a notch above our boys who just couldn't get into thegame despite their best efforts. Final score Bandon 4 Skibb 0.

Last Saturday brought an end to our playing season with both under 10 and 11 panels makingthe long journey to Mitchelstown.  This was our best turn out of the seasons with 19 playersavailable and each one getting plenty game time as we played over four periods.  It was ahighly entertaining open game played in a very sporting manner with our lads coming out on topby a few tries.

Afterwards our hosts treated everyone to  much appreciated sandwiches, baking andrefreshments.  Following this it was on to Kilfinnane where the boys had a fantastic afternoon inthe river walk and wall climbing/absailing,not to mention a very serious basketball face offbetween children and parents, with parents thankfully saving face for now.
