Synopsis

Truckers drive miles out of their way to stop at Floyd’s — a sandwich shop in Pennsylvania run by the eponymous, tough-as-nails Floyd. Her business plan? To only hire folks desperate for work after returning from incarceration. While her sometimes criminal and always devilish savvy keeps the pantry stocked and the plates of food expedited, it’s the five-star artistry from head chef and sensei Montrellous that draws in customers.

Line cooks Letitia and Rafael, both hungry for a path forward in life, envision the gourmet ingredients of their perfect sandwich while slinging cheesy bacon fries. That is until Jason, a new line cook with oppressive tattoos, brings the Zen kitchen flow to a sudden halt. Guided by Montrellous, the three sous chefs-in-training must work together to seek enlightenment and transcend Floyd — or else roast in truck-stop purgatory.

Meet the Interpreters

Susan Masters has interpreted for many Guthrie productions since 1994, including Babes in Arms; Pride and Prejudice; Jane Eyre; Crowns; Twelfth Night;

The Comedy of Errors; The Parchman Hour; As You Like It; Caroline, or Change; and Macbeth. She has interpreted for the Broadway tours of Rent, Cabaret, Chicago, Miss Saigon, The Color Purple, Hairspray and Les Misérables and for a variety of writers, artists and musicians, including Raymond Luczak, Nic Zapko, Ella Mae Lentz, Maya Angelou, Faith Hill, Carole King, Pink Floyd, Kiss, Sounds of Blackness, The Steele Family, Toshi Reagon and Pete Seeger. When she’s not interpreting, Susan works as a Lutheran pastor who specializes in interim and transition ministry.

Regina Daniels is a full-time Assistant Professor at North Central University in Minneapolis. As the program director and lead American Sign Language instructor in the Carlstrom Interpreter

Training Program based at NCU, she thrives on developing creative, challenging yet fun methods of language instruction. She enjoys teaching students about sign language interpreting from a deaf person’s perspective and helping them develop language competency. Prior to working at NCU, she taught ASL at Columbia College Chicago, where she also began working in the ASL/English Interpretation Department. She holds an M.A. in Performance Arts Management and is currently working toward her Ph.D. from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota. Regina is passionate about dance, theater and teaching ASL.

Rachel Rothering is a nationally certified interpreter with a B.A. in Interpreting from St. Catherine University. Floyd’s is Rachel’s debut interpreted

performance at the Guthrie, but she works with several local theater companies, including SteppingStone Theatre, Fridley Community Theatre and 20% Theater Company. Rachel currently is an educational interpreter working in both K–12 and post-secondary settings. She has a heart for accessibility and a love of all things performing arts, and she is thrilled to be part of the award-winning access services at the Guthrie.
