Tips for getting the most out of your summer

• Ask questions from Day 1.

• Know your main ‘supervisor’

• Identify your project by end of first week

• Read literature, especially review articles

• Participate in group activities, both work and play

• If you feel like a mushroom, seek help... from faculty advisor, postdocs & grad students in the group,Rick, Elva, Katherine, Sanha…

• How to address people?

What “hours” should I work?

• ~40 hours / week

• Work hours similar to those of grad students and

postdocs in the group. Arrive at the same time

they do. Go to lunch with them.

• Reasonable hours are ~9 AM to 6 PM

• Summer research is not compatible with taking a

summer course, other day job, ResEd RA

position, etc.
