of central neigh-bourhoods

(referred to as Kiez in Berlin dialect), each with a distinct

character

2. Open abank accountYou only need the city-registration and your passport.

BANK

Get a “Rentenversicherungsnummer” (RVNR). This literally means insurance pension

number: its a twelve-digit pension insurance number  which you have for life and certifies

your membership in the pension scheme.

Your employer can get the RVNR for you. They will notify your medical insurance fund that you

have commenced paid employment. This will trigger the allocation of the insurance number by

the applicable pension insurance agency and this will then be communicated to you.

€2.70: the standard AB, single journey ticket (travel for 2hours in a single direction)

€79.50: the standard AB monthly ticket (unlimited travel in a month)

€60 the fine if you are caught without a ticket. There are no ticket gates on the Ubahn and Sbahn, but don’t be fooled, the plain- clothed inspectors will catch you!

Download the app! The “FahrInfo Plus” app which lets you buy tickets on the go!

TIP: Before the

journey starts tickets must be validated by stamping them at the

yellow or red boxes on train

platforms, in buses or on

trams. In case of inspection, a

ticket that is not stamped is
