As mathematicians we will be learning about, and deepening our understanding of, area and perimeter, pie charts, multiplying and dividing fractions, percentages, decimals, ratio and proportion, coordinates, reflection and translation, parts of a circle, algebra and a variety of word problems. We will also continue using and applying mathematics in context. We will test the children and address misconceptions as well as concentrating on arithmetic and reasoning, unpicking concepts and determining the best strategies to solve and understand problems. We will also be starting our weekly revision and booster sessions with the children to enable them to

This term our topic will be The Classics. The children will explore the charm and challenge of classic fiction, through the works of some of the great classical authors. We will study extracts from works by great literary minds such as Rudyard Kipling, E.Nesbit and the wonderful JRR Tolkien, We will link our English topic to the geography curriculum by studying a number of different geographical destinations visited by Phileas Fogg on his journey ‘Around

As scientists we will be deepening our understanding of living organisms. Through our study we will recognise that living things produce offspring of the same kind, but that offspring normally vary and are not identical to their parents. We will begin to record data and results of increasing complexity using scientific diagrams and labels, classification keys, tables, scatter graphs, and bar and line graphs. We will identify how animals and plants are adapted to suit their environment in different ways and

As grammar champions we will be working through a number of activities to act as revision for each of the objectives outlined in the KS2 curriculum. This will include sentence structure, vocabulary, punctuation and writing tips. As readers we will continue to develop our ability to read for pleasure. We will explore and analyse each of the classical texts we study to develop our language acquisition skills. We will dedicate time each week to answer inference and deduction questions as well as explore the writer’s intentions and feeling towards the different characters. As authors we will be writing in a range of styles to cover all of the different elements of the English curriculum, using classical texts as our springboard. We will spend time looking at sentence structure,

As artists we will develop our skills of using different materials by making a hot air balloon, linking with our geography theme of ‘Around the World in 80 Days.’ We will use papier mache to make the balloon and use a weaving technique to make the basket. We will continue to use our sketch books to record ideas, and master shading

As coders we will continue developing our programming skills. Our learning will focus on developing our logic and programming skills using the coding language of both Blockly and Python to explore algorithms. The children will also be using ICT regularly in maths, English and Geography to develop presentation and research skills throughout the term.

As linguists we will be developing our awareness of sentence structure in our Spanish lessons. We will explore patterns and sounds of language through songs and rhymes and will link the spelling and meaning of the words. We will broaden our vocabulary and develop our ability to understand new words that are introduced into familiar writing material.

As geographers we will use our ‘Classics’ topic to develop our understanding of the world by following Phileas Fogg on his journey ‘Around the World in 80 Days’. We will learn about latitude, longitude, the equator, hemispheres, tropics, polar circles and time zones on a world map. We will analyse life in a variety of countries around the world and draw comparisons between how we live in the UK with how people

In R.E, we will be learning about Islam. We will make connections between the Muslim belief in Allah and the part human beings are required to play in protecting the pattern, order and diversity of the world Allah has created. We will also be learning about the two attributes of Allah – Ar-Rahman (The Compassionate) and Ar-Rahim (The Merciful), and the qualities Muslims try to develop in their own lives.
