(Jason Huizenga photo) The Platte Killer Tomato amateur baseball team will wrap up regular season action this Thursday night on the road visiting the Parkston Mud- cats at ‘The Pond’ in Parkston with first pitch set for 8 p.m. The KT’s will then dive into Dis- trict 5B Tourney play July 23-31 in Corsica. Seven teams will be com- peting in the event with five of those seven advancing to the 2020 State B Amateur Tourney in Mitchell. Final seedings and pairings will be finalized over the next week after all regular season play is finished. Platte 5, Mount Vernon 2 Platte prevailed with a signature win last Thursday night in Sunshine League play posting a 5-2 victory on the road in Mount Vernon. Platte rode the right arm of start- ing pitcher Michael Buitenbos, who was on point all night long. He went the distance getting the complete game win striking out 14 batters and walking just two. He scattered just seven hits in his gem. Platte strung together 17 hits led by Grant Lang, who had another big game with a home run, double and single driving in four of the To- matoes’ five runs. Veteran Hayden Kuiper collected three singles while Hunter Hewitt had a double and sin- gle. Buitenbos, Richard Sternberg and Payton Foxley each had a pair of singles in the big win. Winner/Colome 9, Platte 2 Platte went west to Winner on THEN DISTRICT TOURNEY IN CORSICA Tomatoes Finish Up Regular Season Thursday in Parkston Sunday and was dealt a 9-2 defeat. W/C was up just 3-1 before plating four runs in the the sixth and two more in the seven to put it away. Derek Soukup started on the hill for the KT’s working into the sixth inning before being relieved by Pat (Putz) Veurink. Platte had nine team hits led by Michael Buitenbos, who collected three singles. Tait Sibbel tacked on two singles in the loss for Platte. Dimock/Emery 19, Platte 18 It was a slug fest in Emery last Tuesday night in a makeup game, but in the end Dimock/Emery pre- vailed with a crazy 19-18 win over Platte in Sunshine League play. Platte punched out 20 hits in the game and held an 18-17 lead going into the bottom of the ninth in a see- saw, back and forth contest. But seven KT errors proved cru- cial in the final outcome leading to 11 unearned runs for D/E. Hayden Kuiper, Hunter Hewitt, Grant Lang and Austin Plooster all pitched for Platte on the night. Lang launched two home runs driving in six runs for Platte at the plate while Tait Sibbel smacked a homer and pair of singles. Jarod Severson had a huge night crack- ing a pair of doubles and two sin- gles while Kuiper had a double and Richard Sternberg three singles driving in four runs.
