PG Large AC motors have wide product offering including cast iron motors, modular induction motors,slip-ring motors, synchronous motors, permanent magnet motors as well as low voltage inductionmotors using form wound coils.

Table shows output power ranges for high voltage induction motors and synchronous motors.

High voltage rib cooled motors, sometimes also called TEFC (Totally Enclosed Force Cooled) motors,NXR and HXR can be engineered according to customer requirements and application.

The new member in ABB’s high voltage rib cooled motor family is called NXR. Rigid cast iron designNXR motors are available up to 1200 kW and frames sizes 355 to 450 according to IEC standards.

HXR has been in production more than two decades. It has rigid cast iron design and max. power goesup to 2250 kW. Due to wide set of features, it can be installed in demanding environments.

ABB’s high voltage rib cooled motors, type NXR and HXR, are targeted at all industry sectors. Ourengineered rib cooled motors can be built according to customer specifications. They are individuallyoptimized for requested application, industry and other requirements.

Process performance rib cooled motor M3 is a standard product which can be configured easily anddelivered quickly.

Process performance rib cooled motor M3 produces power up to 750 kW and it has IEC, NEMA and CSAapprovals.

Process performance rib cooled motor M3 is designed for pump, fan and compressor applications insafe area environments.

The Exd series in our portfolio is called AMD, it consists of two main line AMD R and AMD T. AMDflameproof motors is used in hazardous areas where gases or flamable dust can be present.The flameproof motors with totally enclosed fan cooled construction are available with the type ofprotection Ex d IIB/IIC and Ex de IIB/IIC.

AMD R have cast iron frame and available shaft height are from 355 to 400. A welded steel frame isavailable for shaft height 450-500.AMD R is rib cooled motor, cooling type IC411

AMD T is a tube cooled motor and have welded steel frame. Available shaft heights are from 500 to900. The tubes are located inside the motor frame.Cooling type IC511.

The motors can operate in harsh environments such as, extreme temperatures, corrosive dust andhigh humidity.AMD motors fullfill the Oil and Gas Industry requirements, certification according to EN / IECstandards and ATEX.

High voltage modular induction motors are engineered according to customer requirements and areused in most industries and applications.

AMI is a squirrel cage induction motor with modular design. AMI is a flexible design in powers,speeds, protection and cooling forms. AMI is available up to 23000 kW and many standard featuresmakes AMI suitable for most industries.

Modular induction motors AMI are suitable for various applications like pumps, fans, compressors aswell as conveyors, crushers and many more industrial applications.

AMA and NMI motors present Modular platform motors with limited engineering and standardizedaccessories. More standardized – faster lead and delivery times, they are perfect to customers thatdon’t require high end specifications and values short delivery times. AMA is a global productmanufactured in China. NMI is a new product developed in China for the Chinese domestic market.

As previously presented AMI, also AMA is a squirrel cage induction motor, with modular welded steelframe design. Construction is similar with AMI motors, but AMA is limited up to shaft height 630 andhas limited range of solutions and accessories => this enables faster delivery times with lessengineering. AMA has also complete range of enclosures and cooling arrangements. AMA ismanufactured only in China, but is sold globally.

A new member of HV modular motor is a product developed in China to be sold only in China. Todayavailable in frame size 400-560, but the range will be up to 630, when the R&D project will be finishedin 2016. Complies with IEC as well as local standards GB.

NMI primary focus is on pump and fan application in water and power industry.

AMK and AML, are squirrel cage induction motors, with modular design and slip-ring unit. Slip ring unitis located separately, at the non-drive end of the motor, to allow easy maintenance. Motors can beequipped with permanent contact brushes, and are suitable for variable speed drives, or with a brushlifting device, for continuous running.

High voltage modular slip-ring motors are called AMK or AML depending on frame size. Slip-ringmotors are available up to 11,9 MW.

Slip-ring motors are widely used in applications which require high starting torque or low startingcurrent. Typical industries are cement plants and mining with fans, conveyors, mill drives and manymore.

For drilling rig applications, drilling motors are typically used for driving mud pumps, draw works, topdrives and rotary tables. It is an extremely demanding application with challenging productionenvironment. ABB squirrel cage induction motors match the demands of land-based, and offshore oiland gas drilling applications. ABB top drive motors are designed, tested and certified for on- andoffshore and VSD applications, optimizing total running costs.

Synchronous motors from ABB are available for slow and high speed applications. They are based ona standard design and tailor made for different industries, applications and customer requirements.

Synchronous motors AMS from ABB covers powers up to 65 MW in 4 – and 6-pole design. AMS isalways designed to meet customer and project requirements. Major application is to drivecompressors in OGP industry.

Synchronous motors AMZ from ABB covers powers up to 60 MW and is available from 8-pole up veryhigh pole numbers. AMZ design varies from industry to industry e.g. there are special designsavailable to meet customer and project requirements in OGP, Marine, Mining and Metals.

Synchronous motors AMT is a cable wound motor from ABB covers powers up to 50MW and veryhigh voltages.

Synchronous motors AMZ PM is a permanent magnet motor from ABB which covers powers up to 2,5MW, specially suitable for high torque and low speed application.
