Service Projects

Public awareness/Public relations Committee Standing committee whose goal is to ensure that all relevant club activities regarding fund-raising and service projects are promoted through local news outlets and through social media. Will send monthly report of club activities for publication in the District Newsletter via Club Runner. The purpose of this committee is to increase the visibility of Rotary’s efforts to conduct fund raising activities and service projects. Early Act First Knight Continuous involvement through academic year Members of this committee will coordinate with the Intermediate school to have a Rotarian attend one of the bi-monthly meetings of the student council. Their role is to help students understand how to conduct a meeting in a manner analogous to that of a Rotary meeting. Will also ensure that at least two Rotarians will attend the award ceremonies (6 per year). Safety Town Project Saturday, September 16th Entails determining the number of structures that need to be replaced or repaired; obtaining supplies (in the form of donations?) from Home Depot and/or Walker Byrd; coordinating day-long event to rebuild/repair structures and paint them; coordinating with Rotaract and Interact students to do this. Guest Speaker Committee Throughout year Members will arrange for speakers at weekly meetings and obtain biographical information for their introduction. Will coordinate with Marcus and Rhonda regarding the scheduling of dates for their presentations. The goal is to provide a variety of interesting topics. Supplies for Housing Insecure Students at Huntsville Intermediate School Project development begins in July and last through the year Entails coordinating with and obtaining information from the school district regarding the number of students in need; determining the needs of the students; obtaining the food and necessities – or gift cards. Also may include coordinating efforts with other entities in Huntsville; such as local churches and other civic organizations to maximize the effectiveness of the project. Tree Planting Day Saturday December 2, 2017 (and/or as part of the Rotary meeting that week) Entails contacting the City of Huntsville and Texas Forest Service to determine locations for the planting of the trees. For those Rotarians who wish to plant trees in their own yard or property, a method of photo-documentation will need to be developed to document our club members’ efforts. Will need to determine the need for shovels and any other relevant tools. Will entail coordinating with the Rotaract and Interact club to participate in the event. May want to coordinate with other groups as well. Marcus has made contacts regarding the procurement of the tree saplings. The goal is to have all members plant at least one tree. Back to Nature Day/Kid’s Day at the State Park Saturday April 21, 2018 Will entail coordinating with Huntsville State Park and the local Boys and Girls club, or school district, to take kids (and possibly some home insecure kids) to the State Park for a day of outdoor activities to include horse riding, nature walks, canoeing, and nature talks by Park Rangers. Will need to determine the number of kids that can go. Need to arrange transportation. Need to develop appropriate waivers of liability. Ensure publicity. Red Badge Committee Work as needed throughout the year Standing committee that will develop and revise the Red Badge informational materials; revise, as needed, the Red Badge requirements/form; sets dates for the informational meetings (twice per year?), and ensure that candidates are meeting the requirements. This entails setting a schedule for Red Badge members to serve as greeters (each for 4 meetings), and give 3-minute presentations about themselves sometime during the year. Social Events Committee Work as needed throughout the year This committee will develop one or two social events for club members – in addition to the Christmas party. The goal is to provide a fun event to promote camaraderie among club members. *Funding for these events cannot come from funds obtained through fund raising projects; i.e., they must be obtained from dues or individual payments from for the event.
