Friday, 14 August 2020 - Week 4 Hi Everyone, This week we celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of Mary at a whole school Mass in the Pope John Paul Hall. It was a marvellous celebration led by our wonderful Parish Priest Fr Shibu Jacob. Fr Shibu conducted a conversation with the children about Mary, the mother of Jesus. The children have a well-developed sense of faith in their God and their tradition. It was great to hear them express their faith and the sense of service to others which underpins all the major faith traditions.

Hi Everyone,

This week we celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of Mary at a whole school Mass in the Pope John Paul Hall.

Opening of Tenders for our new Library Building “Curiosity Central”

Following an extensive period of design and planning, Tenders were called recently for the construction of our new building which is a Library and Learning Hub known as “Curiosity Central”. Tomorrow we are working with our architects Design Inc and the Catholic Education Office to make a selection of a builder from the companies which submitted tenders for the project.

We are planning to commence the project in early December for completion in May 2021. This facility will provide a huge amount of reading resources and amazing learning spaces for our students. This is a great time to have your children at Holy Family as the learning opportunities are limitless. The new building will sit next to the school canteen as shown in this image below. The building will feature a huge collection of fiction and non-fiction materials to enhance children’s learning.

Exciting times to come at Holy Family Catholic School in 2020 and beyond!

Holy Family Writes…

Look out on Friday for our next edition of “Holy Family Writes…” which will feature: Crafty Writers - A showcase of student work that shows a variety of author crafting techniques which may include but not limited to: words in italics, white space, interrobang (combination of punctuation), ellipsis followed by period, dash, manipulated font, skipping a line, illustration crafts, onomatopoeia, alliteration and similes

FROM THE APRIM

On Saturday, August 15th the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of the Assumption. The Feast originated in Jerusalem before the fifth century and was

named the “Falling Asleep of the Mother of God.”

It was adopted in Rome in the mid-seventh century and it was renamed the “Assumption” in the next century. It celebrates Mary’s passing over, body and soul from this world into the glory of her risen son. The Assumption signals the end of

Mary's earthly life and marks her return to heaven to be reunited with Jesus.

Sacramental Program The following students celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation over the last 2 weekends. Carter, Alex, Amelia, Olivia, Kobe, Kayden, Grace, Rojun, Rafael and Ezekiel.

Attention all Parents, Principals and Teachers Are you a teacher who has some great ideas for supporting parents to engage in their children’s learning at home and at school?

or Are you an engaged parent or carer who has some ideas on how to engage other parents, but you need support in your ideas?

or Are you a principal or APRIM who has a program that you want to embed within in your school community to encourage and support family engagement? Have the ideas but don’t have the support or the funds? We invite you to attend our Forum for Successful Pie Grant Stories on Thursday 3rd September from 9.30 – 12.30. Come and listen to how a Pie grant can have an impact on school communities, parents and students. What are Pie grants? By arrangement with the Minister for Education John Gardner, the Federation manages these grants annually for parent initiatives in education. Grants of up to $2500 are available for projects like:

• Encouraging parents to participate in decision-making.

• Supporting children and families in primary and high school transitions.

• Building understanding of what and how children are learning and how learning

can be supported at home.

• Building family and teacher capacity to work in partnership.

• Developing community relationships and partnerships to create new

opportunities for students and schools.

Engaged parents and families help children to succeed and help schools to build strong relationships and communities. If you have some ideas or would like information on what successful Pie grant outcomes look like come along. You will be glad you did!

Alive Catholic Early Learning

We have had a wonderful start to the term with children excitedly engaging in a range of learning experiences and opportunities. From the smiles and laughter witnessed each day, it is evident that children are experiencing joy in their learning and in the relationships and connections they are making with other children and their educators.

‘Early Learning Matters’ week was celebrated from 3rd to 7th August 2020. Early childhood educators, parents and community leaders around Australia came together (online)  to raise awareness and understanding of the importance of early learning.

Research shows that high quality early years education fosters children’s development, supports their wellbeing and lays the foundation for children to be successful learners for life. Quality early years education is about rich interactions and secure relationships. The interactions and relationships between children and educators, including the nature, quality and consistency of these interactions positively impacts children’s development and experience of the world. These interactions are central to the learning opportunities that educators design as it is through sustained and reciprocal interactions that educators foster children’s communication skills, extend their thinking, develop their ability to manage emotions and relationships and instil the skills and confidence to be effective learners (Tori, Fox and Stanley, 2017)*. At Alive Catholic Early Learning the development and learning of each child matters deeply to us and as such we work to develop a rich understanding of who each child is including their talents, abilities, hopes, dreams and capabilities. Children’s learning is personalised and opportunities for learning are based on educator’s observation of children’s play and knowledge of the child’s passions and interests, curiosities and understandings. Children’s learning is guided by the principles, practices and learning outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework and our Alive Curriculum which includes Positive Education, Ecology, Spirituality, Literacy, Numeracy, Arts and Expression and Movement. We believe that working in partnership with families greatly influences children’s developmental and learning outcomes. Parents undoubtedly know their child best and their insight and understanding of their child greatly informs the learning opportunities that we are able to design for each child.
