Pastor David Mitchell

DEAR CALVARY FAMILY,Looking back at 2017 and gaining a glimpse of 2018 brings excitement to my heart. This past year was significant in the story of Calvary Church as our Elder Board and I, along with all of you in our church family, moved into a time of succession for my position as Senior Pastor. I want to thank our Elders for their faithful prayers and diligent efforts in the process of pursuing God’s will on this matter. It was a true joy to participate with them as we came to the unanimous agreement that God is calling Eric Wakeling to be the next Senior Pastor of Calvary Church. I thank you all for your participation, questions, concerns and prayers during this past year as well. Looking into 2018, I am excited to support our new leadership team with Eric Wakeling as our new Senior Pastor. On February 4 at 10:00 am, we will have a special installation service to celebrate and worship together.

I am also looking forward to my new role as Pastor of Teaching and Spiritual Enrichment. This will still include some Sunday morning preaching, along with weekly teaching on Wednesday nights when we will explore books that are often overlooked because they are difficult to understand. In 2018, this will include Zechariah and Revelation. My ministry will also include four M’s: Membership care—hospital visits, funerals and weddings; Missionary care—encouraging those serving around the world; Mentoring—building up younger men seeking to grow in spiritual maturity and leadership; Mission—working in an evangelistic way as a chaplain with the Santa Ana police. Thank you for the privilege of serving as your Senior Pastor for these past 22 years. I look forward to serving alongside you in new ways in 2018.

We ended the fiscal year with the General Fund having a net income of $136,376 so we increased our savings for future maintenance. Our Reach Fund had a net loss of $29,418, but we were able to use some reserve funds and estate gifts to break even. We are continuing to trust the Lord to provide for our needs this year.

Your investment of time, talent and treasure is making a difference in people’s lives for Jesus Christ here in Orange County and around the world. If you would like any additional financial information of how Calvary Church uses your giving for ministry purposes (including a copy of our audited financial statements), please contact Michael Welles, our Executive Pastor of Administration, at [email protected] or 714.550.2313.
