NOTE.--Pensions and gratuities to the pol!ce are payable under the Police Regulation Act (54 Vict. No. t 127) out of a fund called the Police Superannuation Fund. This fund is maintained by an endowment from the consolldated revenue, by a moiety of fines inflicted by the courts of petty sessions, by a deduction not exceeding 2! per cent. from the pay of the force, by transfers from the Licensing Fund under Act No. 1.,o68, and, when the foregoing sources are insufficient, by further grants in aid from the consolidated revenue. In •907-8, the ordinary receipts were as follow :-Government endowment, £<,ooo; fines, £3,405; deductions from pay (at 2! per cent.), £s,uz; transfer from Licensing Fnnd, £•9,71•; Government subsidy voted to supplement endowment, £2•,1.6B; total, £51,517. The balance at the credit of the fund on the tst July, 1907, was £5,876; and on the 3oth June, 1908,£t,7oo. During the past twenty-one years it has been necessary to vote £479,150 (exclusive of endowment and of £19,73• transferred from the Licensing Fund in 1907-B) in aid of the fund, or an average of £11,117 per annum.
