Surrounded by the interstate on all four side, the urban core of KC has been completely forgotten. The Arts Academy will be the architectural catalyst downtown needs to spark renovation projects in the area.

Formally showcasing dance, while informally demonstrating sustainable building practices, the Academy will radiate warmth and mixed-use revenue out into what is presently only the unloved parking garage district.

The outdoor movie projection area is located on the most prominent northwestern corner of the site to be most inviting to the Quality Hill Apartments and other residences farther up the street to the west.

Reflecting PoolTo promote a healthy lifestyle, a continuous path of pedestrian travel provides citizens downtown with a place to exercise, safe from the obstructions and distractions of city life.

Located at the end of kc8, a shallow pool reflects the surrounding buildings, and in winter months can be frozen into a public ice rink.

To create a strong connection to the ground, elongated stairs hugged by ramps touch down along the adjacent parking lots, providing direct access and space for activities.

By incorporating elements such as trees, open fields, and seating, kc8 allows users to reconnect with nature, creating space for leisure and play.

Transportation HubWith the implementation of kc8 surroundings properties will rise in value and surface parking lots will have the required foot traffic to sustain apartments, retail, and hotels.

To enhance the pedestrian street edge and anticipate the needs of this public destination, sidewalk wings are added to the existing bridge over Main Street; creating bus stops and a future light-rail station stop with elevator access up to kc8.

Sitting atop the columns, four vertical access wind turbines act as finial ornamentation and produce sustainable energy for kc8 and its surrounding infrastructure.

To entice visitors and generate revenue, the addition of a cafe with direct street access allows users an exotic place to dine while enjoying the Kansas City skyline.

With an average rainfall of about 100 inches and with over 15,000 sq ft of roof to collect rainfall we could potentially collect over 1 million gallons of water yearly.
