• First case in this hemisphere December 7, 2013 St. Martin
• 443,552 confirmed/suspected cases in 29 countries/territories
of the Caribbean and South America as of July 28, 2014
Chikungunya – vector mosquitoes
• The Yellow Fever mosquito and the Asian Tiger mosquito are difficult to control because of their life cycles
• They use artificial containers to lay their eggs
• They are daytime biters
• At summer temperatures, they can go from egg to adult in a week
