That’sexactlywhathappenedonarecentDOTjob—a7.5-milesectionoftheU.S.Highway311BypassnearHighPoint.

“Itwasadesign-buildjob,whichthestateisgoingtomoreandmorefrequentlytotrytoensurethatprojectsarecompletedinatimelymanner,”notedBrickey.“Thegeneralcontractorwantedusasa‘dedicatedpartner’ontheirteamforthatjobbecauseithadanaggressivetimetableandwehadplantsatbothendsofit,plusthemanpowerandresourcestowork24hoursadaytogetitdone.”

Thompson-Arthurdoessomebridgeconstructionandlightgrading,butisprimarilyanasphalt-pavingcompany.Whileitdoesresidentialandcommercialwork,thevastmajorityofitsjobsareforgovernmententities,suchasthestateofNorthCarolina.Atanyonetime,thecompanytypicallyhasdozensofactivejobsinvariousstagesofconstruction.
