This north-western corner of NorthKesteven was once dominated by theKnights Templar at Eagle Hall andthere were Templar granges (tiedfarms) at Morton,Swinethorpe and EagleWoodhouse.
Please note, betweenOctober and Januarythere may be shootingactivity in and aroundTunman Wood.
This corner of North Kesteven, once knownas the ‘Soke of Eagle’ is geologicallydistinctive. Here, to the west of Lincoln, thecurve of the Liassic clay vale is terracedwith gravel deposits. Settlements wereestablished on these terraces and so parishboundaries do not follow the classicgrid-iron pattern.
