Steven Farrell!

Thor and Loki travel to Jotunheim!

!By the Bifröst go Thor and Loki,!

Tired they grow of Asgard’s slow pace.!

Down, down, down to Jotunheim,!

The great land where the giants roam.!

!There were warnings,!

There were songs,!

All telling where Thor should not to trod.!

!But these only fueled him,!

And these only drove him,!

To find, with brother, the Giant Skrymir.!

!Casting strong his great hammer,!

the giant mistook Thor,!

for only a mouse.!

“I am no mouse!” Thor angrily replied!!

!!!

And as he threw again his hammer,!

The giant awoke and wondered,!

if a leaf had fallen upon him.!

!Furious, fuming,!

Thor left the strong giant.!

And made advance to Skrymir’s castle.!

!Awaiting him were three tests of the giants:!

To eat the most at a table of meats,!

To drink the giant’s goblet in one drought,!

And to outrun the fastest Giant,!

!Yet with each passing task Thor found he failed!!

And Thor did so with great anger,!

and yelling he flung his arms wildly.!

!How simple the tasks!!

Yet how easy he failed them!!

There was not one test,!

Thor could prove his worth.!

!!

!So the giants agreed at two simple tasks,!

“He shall lift this cat!”

“And fight my old nurse, Elli!”!

And so Thor set about again to show them true mettle.!

!Truly embarrassed,!

and red in the face,!

Thor failed these too, devoid of all grace.!

!So Thor left angry with all giants laughing.!

But the giants deceived him with their tricks and illusions.!

The tasks set forth were not what they seemed,!

But Thor was still furious for he had been cheated.!

!He looked back and charged the castle with great strength,!

but it vanished into air as its truth was mere trick.!

And Loki did say “Oh, Wit shall beat strength.”!

!But Thor paid no mind and made a great clamor,!

And told his fond brother !

“Tell that to my hammer!”
