Three is a lucky number

Ronald Torbay was a very wary man. He was certain he was infinItely more

clever than most human.

He persuaded homely middle-aged women to marry him and the to will him their

modest possessions, when they were killed.

Each of his wives had been shy. He was carefully to choose the right type

because he felt that his success depended on it.

His thrid and last victim was Edyth. She was forty three years old and, after her

father´s death, she was totally alone and well off. They married five weeks after

their first met.

Two things signed Edyth´s death warrant earlier than had been his original

intention. One was her obstinate reticence over her monetary affairs and the other

was the embarrassing interest in his job.

One day, she returned home after a hard day, he prepared her a bath. He

was in the bathroom for many hours and had hidden a socket under the foam.

There were roses on the ground and if was impossible to see anything because the

steam didn´t allow it.

She entered in the bathroom and locked. He waited for some minutes to

turn on the fuse box. After that, he came back and shouted Edyth. He didn´t find an

answer. After carrying out his plan, Ronald opened the Edyth´s leather writing-

case where she kept all her private papers and he noticed that Edyth had taken all

her money.

While he was looking for the money he found a envelope, adressed to

himself. Inside there was a letter for him:

Dear Ronald, if you ever get this, I am afraid it can cause you a dreadful shock. Your

behaviour forced me to face some unpleasant possibilities. I didn’t want to suspect you

but your predecessor, James Joseph and his brides are not entirely forgotten.

For a long time I though I was in love with you but when you persuaded me to make my

will on our wedding day I could not help wondering. As soon as you started fussing

about the bathroom I considered I had to do something quickly so I went to the police.

Have you notice that many people have moved in to the house next door and they have

never tried to speak to you?

They talked me about the fatal accidents in bathrooms and the inspector suggested me

not to leave the house. If you should ever chase me, you will find that I have gone out

over the roof and I’m sitting in my dressing gown in the kitchen next door.

As he raised his eyes he heard heavy footsteps raced through the hall and went upstairs

towards him.

OPINION

I chose this story because I love stories with surprise ending. In this case, the

reader is expected to Ronald away with it, however Edyth manages to avoid being

killed.

I also like the story because Ronald believes that his wife is stupid and not realize

their intentions, however Edyth cheated Ronald.

The part I like about the book is when Ronald reads the letter that wrote Edyth and

realizes that he is finished.

During the history Edyth have a very hard and interesting play and ultimately get

revenge by getting evidence to blame Ronald despite running a great risk.

Sauce for the Goose

Loren Amory is married with Olivia, she is eleven years younger. Olivia has

a depression and Loren Knows the reason. Olivia fallen in love thin Stephen, a

young actor who met at a party given by one of Loren´s colleagues.

Since that moment, Olivia went to New York at least twice a week to meet

with Stephen. At last she told Loren she was in love with Stephen. To save their

marriage Loren and Olivia agreed that Olivia would not see Stephen for three

months, if after this time Olivia had not forgotten him, Loren would not try be with

her.

Olivia started to be depressed and tried to finish with her life for two or

three times. One day Loren was looking over some office reports when he heard a

long scream. She thought that Olivia had felt because of a carpet sweeper, but

Olivia had not fallen down, she had only lured him to he fall and died against the

cement floor.

Olivia and Stephen had planned to kill Loren to be together and keep his

money.

After that, they travelled to Trinidad and in a few months they were

married.

One day Stephen tried to kill Olivia in a terrace but he failed. Olivia and

Stephen started to distrust each other.

Finally Olivia made a plan to kill Stephen. Olivia thought that Stephen had

fallen into the trap and that he would be frozen in the freezer. She went to the bed

and assured herself a night´s sleep with a light sedative. To be quite natural about

the whole thing she went down to the cellar to make the `discovery´ before she

called the police. She opened the deep freeze with apprehension. Stephen had

arranged an accident and now she was dying frozen. She asked for help but no one

answered.

OPINION

The title of this history is part of the saying `what´s a sauce for the goose is sauce

for the gander´, what is suitable for one person must also be suitable for another. I

think this title is very appropriate for this history because Olivia lies and kill Loren

to take his money and after Stephen made the same with her.

Olivia is a cold, unfeeling woman and she fallen in love with Stephen who just want

her money. I like this history because you didn´t hope this ending.
