Singleton wineries are back in businessTourism operators in the Singleton area want visitors to know the storm has passed and they are back in business.

Despite all major roads reopening, Hunter Valley Wine Country businesses say they are continuing to suffer as visitors remain apprehensive about visiting a natural disaster zone.

Singleton Council General Manager Lindy Hyam says there are reports of conferences being cancelled, a drop in bookings and general enquiries and loss of revenue at cellar doors following the April storm event.

“There’s no doubt that our region, and some of our neighbouring council areas in particular, have been significantly impacted by the recent weather events,” she says.

“Enquiries to the Singleton Visitor Information and Enterprise Centre have fallen 19 per cent while visitor numbers to the centre halved the week of the storm and have not returned to their usual level.

“However, Singleton and Hunter Valley Wine Country is back on its feet and the best way to support local businesses right now is by paying them a visit and enjoying some world-class food and wine.”

Ms Hyam says she welcomes the $1 million in funding for tourism promotion announced today by the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events.

This Friday 22nd May Singleton retailers have united for the Halfway in May Sale to celebrate the midway point in construction of the Singleton Town Centre Revitalisation. More than 70 retailers are participating with some amazing bargains up for grabs plus a free barbecue in John Street, face painting, games and entertainment.

Stay safe as well as independentThe Scone Neighbourhood Centre (SNC) is encouraging people who own a motorised mobility scooter to make contact with their office to participate in scooter maintenance days. The next scooter maintenance day will be held at the SNC on Tuesday 26th May. Cost for the service is $70.00.Lee Watts, manager of the Scone Neighbourhood Centre said, “A properly-maintained and serviced scooter is necessary to ensure the safety of users. People need to have regular maintenance of their scooters to ensure neither the user or others risk injury.”

Scooters are used by all aged groups. Scooter users value their independence their scooter gives them. As well as maintaining a scooter, users should use safety items such as flags and reflectors to increase their visibility and safety on the road.

Anyone wanting more information or to book their scooter in for a service drop in or contact the Scone Neighbourhood Centre on 6545 2562.
