Another in my series of swirl-base baskets, a technique that covers a drilled wood base with swirled spokes. Catch the twist both in the start and in the finish. This design takes the spokes on a journey from the base to the lacey rim finishing with a gentle cascade as they find their way back to home base. If you ever needed a welcome basket this is the one for you. It can hold a bottle of wine and the pineapple is the universal symbol of welcome. This basket begins with a basic round base. Friday Classes (Sept. 20, 2019) CROSSING PATHS

This is a rustic farmhouse basket. The oval base will be weaver-ready for class. Rim & rope handle will be attached with wax linen. The “crossing paths” design will be added with 3mm reed. The miniature carrier is woven with black ash splint over a class mold. Discussion will focus on weaving with fine ash splint and techniques used in weaving smaller baskets including making rims and handles. Small sharp scissors and small copper clips will be needed.

Saturday Classes (Sept. 21, 2019) INTERLACED

Interlaced is all about the rim. Start with round reed spokes which are inserted into a slotted wood base. Weave on a class mold for a quick weave to the top. With plenty of time to spend on the rim, you will be able to concentrate on the lovely interlaced technique that gives you this dynamic rim. Learn: Braided rim, weave on a mold, attach base to mold. STACKED DEBBIE MROCZENSKI

This round basket is generous in size and easy to weave. The placement of spokes, weavers and overlays creates the Stacked pattern. Spokes will be glued to the rim row which gives the rim weaving a neater finish. The technique for adding the leather handles hides the overlaps inside and out, and puts the handle openings around both rim bands. Woven in black and natural.

BLUE RIDGE BURDEN BASKET LAURA LEE ZANGER

The Blue Ridge is a traditional Cherokee-style burden or pack basket that could be used for corn. Hickory bark or cloth ties could be placed around the square section to create a tumpline or shoulder straps for hands-free carrying. The corn could be picked and tossed over the shoulder to funnel down into the basket. The 1-3-5 twill design represents the Blue Ridge Mountain tops. Students will learn how to transition a basket rom one shape to another. Tools – alligator clips, metal spoke weight.

COWEE BURDEN BASKET LAURA LEE ZANGER

The Cowee is a traditional Cherokee-style burden or pack basket that could be used for gathering corn, Hickory bark or cloth ties could be placed around the square section to create a tumpline or shoulder straps for hands-free carrying, The corn could be picked and tossed over the shoulder to funnel down into the basket. Students will learn the basics of setting up and finishing a Nantucket basket. Basket is woven over a class wire mold. DRAGONFLY is just so cute and another embellishment to add to your tool box. This brightly-colored insect is created with beads, reed, waxed cord, and colored wire. I will share everything concerning the process of selecting a White Oak tree and transforming it in to usable weaving material using homemade tools my Dad made and used. The Utensil will have a Round woven Oak working bottom, as well as round at the top. It will be woven over a mold and Everyone should Finish in class.

TABLETOP TREE COLLAR MARILYN PARR

This is a smaller version of the Christmas Tree Collar. You will begin with an 8” collar that has spokes glued in and weaver ready. The collar is done in natural reed so that you can use it throughout the year for different holidays; just change your tree or the decorations that you place on it.
