When Chantia spoke at her GED graduation, she shared, “Now I can say that I finally finished something

They gave me hope to better myself and to be a better mother to my son.”

The GED Program, located in our Resource Center,

helps teen moms living in the Denver-metro area earn

their GED, an important step toward self-sufficiency.

Because this unique program features one-on-one

instruction and tutoring versus a traditional classroom

model, it enjoys an impressive 83% graduation rate.

The program is structured to allow participants to

move at their own pace, which is crucial due to

the fact that our average teen mom has a 9th grade

educational. In addition, Hope House provides lunch

(our teen moms are often hungry/without the finances

to eat well) and covers the cost of the GED testing.

Transportation is provided when possible. Teen moms

earn their GED in an average of 10 weeks and then often

move on to other programs at Hope House.

GED LEADERSHIP

Our GED Program Coordinator leads this program

with great success: 83% of our participants graduate

and 100% receive assistance with moving on toward

college or career training, an important next step in

reaching self-sufficiency. We also take our teen moms

on regular field trips to community colleges and

assist college-bound teen moms with admissions and

financial aid paperwork.
