“one of the finest straight-ahead jazz guitarists on the current NYC jazz scene.”- Robert Silverstein, MWE3.com

From his fresh interpretations of jazz standards, to his lyrically evocative originals,Brooklyn-based guitarist Rick Stone is an artist with a clear musical vision. Hisfluid, full-bodied sound pays homage to the great jazz masters of the past whilemaintaining a personal style with a contemporary edge.

Rick is a respected teacher at Jazzmobile, BCM, Hofstra and other. His trioperforms regularly at the Garage, the Bar Next Door and other NYC venues. In2010 and 2011 he toured Italy extensively as a guest artist and clinician.

Rick’s latest CD Fractals (2011) features his working trio with bassist MarcoPanascia and drummer Tom Pollard. Says Tim Fischer in Just Jazz Guitar “Stonecomes across as a solid bebop guitarist, updating his harmonic and melodiclanguage to include the developments of the younger generation of New Yorkguitarists. Odd-time modifications to standards, wide-interval exercises, and exoticmodal intros are just a few of the more modern devices Stone explores throughoutthe album.”

Rick Stone began playing guitar at age nine in his hometown of Cleveland. Hedeveloped an early affinity for the blues, but it was in the mid-seventies that hispassion for jazz was sparked after hearing a live performance of saxophonistSonny Stitt. His musical quest led him to Berklee College of Music and then on toNew York where he found a fertile and stimulating environment in Barry Harris’Jazz Cultural Theatre. While studying with the legendary pianist, Rick honed hiscraft sitting in alongside veteran players like Tommy Flanagan, Lionel Hampton,Clarence “C” Sharpe, and Junior Cook. Then, under the tutelage of jazz mastersJimmy Heath, Ted Dunbar, Donald Byrd, Tony Purrone and Hal Galper, he earnedhis M.A. at Queens College.

Mack Avenue recording artist and Virtuoso Solo Guitarist back at Nighttown fora great Friday night!

In a career that took flight with immediate commercial success and criticalacclaim, guitar virtuoso Stanley Jordan has consistently displayed a chameleonicmusical persona of openness, imagination, versatility and maverick daring. Be itbold reinventions of classical masterpieces or soulful explorations through pop-rock hits, to blazing straight ahead jazz forays and ultramodern improvisationalworks—solo or with a group—Jordan can always be counted on to take listeners onbreathless journeys into the unexpected.

Key to Jordan’s fast-track acclaim was his mastery of a special technique on theguitar’s fretboard. Instead of conventional strumming and picking, Jordan's

guitar’s fretboard. Instead of conventional strumming and picking, Jordan'sinnovative "touch technique" is an advanced form of two-handed tapping. While ahandful of other players were using similar techniques, Stanley’s fluid, multi-layered textures and sheer virtuosity raised the bar for excellence.

But his technique, though impressive, is always a means to a musical end. Hismusic is imbued with a warmth and sensitivity that has captured the imagination oflisteners worldwide. A classically trained pianist before playing guitar, Jordanwanted greater freedom in voicing chords on his guitar, so he applied pianoprinciples to do so. Jordan's touch technique allows the guitarist to play melodyand chords simultaneously with an unprecedented level of independence. It alsoallows Jordan to play simultaneously on two different guitars, or even on guitar andpiano. He says that “I think of it as a single instrument, but one with a wide range oftonal colors—that’s why I do it.”

To date Jordan has performed in over 60 countries on 6 continents. He hasperformed at many festivals, including the Kool Jazz Festival, the Concord JazzFestival, and the Montreaux International Jazz Festival. During the 1980s hecollaborated with a diverse array of artists, including performances with Art Blakeyand Richie Cole and recordings with Stanley Clarke and Kenny Rogers. T

Jordan has received four Grammy nominations. His most recent album "Friends"was nominated for an NAACP Image Award.

Jordan came to prominence with the release of his 1985 album Magic Touch, arevolutionary project that placed him at the forefront of re-launching legendaryBlue Note Records into a contemporary entity in jazz and beyond, as alsoestablished the then-twenty-something Jordan as among the most distinctive andrefreshing new voices of the electric guitar.

In 2007 Jordan signed with Mack Avenue Records and released State of Nature in2008 and Friends in 2011. For Friends, he invited musical guests includingguitarists Bucky Pizzarelli, Mike Stern, Russell Malone and Charlie Hunter; violinistRegina Carter; saxophonists Kenny Garrett and Ronnie Laws; trumpeter NicholasPayton; bassists Christian McBride and Charnett Moffett; and drummer KenwoodDennard.

CD Release with North Coast Acoustic Guitar Master! With Special GuestsKevin Johnson-acoustic bass, & Grant Flick-fiddle! Playing music from hisbrand new CD "Tradition Pickin'"

Opening Act: Parker Hastings, 15 year old finger style guitar prodigy fromCentral Kentucky. Inducted in to the National Thumb Pickers Hall of Fame!

Dan was eleven years old when he took his father’s old ES-335 out of the closetand started to play for the first time. Inspired by his older brother, an accomplishedelectric guitarist in his own right, and by his father, Dan quickly became enamoredwith the guitar and has since dedicated himself to becoming the best player he canbe.

Dan's earliest influences were mostly rooted in blues, so he initially set out as anelectric guitarist playing in the styles of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert King, and JimiHendrix. As a teenager Dan began to branch out into jazz, and acknowledgeGeorge Benson, Joe Pass, and Django Reinhardt as major influences to this day.

It was about two years ago that Dan heard Chet Atkins play for the first time and hewas immediately hooked! Dan immersed himself in learning as much as hepossibly could about Chet’s amazing technique, phrasing, and beautifularrangements, which then led him to discover the great Tommy Emmanuel. One ofthe highlights of Dan's career has been playing with Tommy, and he's also had thepleasure of sitting in with renowned jazz guitarists Frank Vignola and VinnieRaniolo. Rock & Jazz Drummer Extraordinaire from Australia/L.A.Ca.. As Featured withAlan Holdsworth, Steve Vai, Tribal Tech, Planet X, & Southern Sons!

Legendary drum virtuoso Virgil Donati’s latest album “In This Life” will be will befeatured on the upcoming US tour.

Having recently won Modern Drummer Magazines best recorded performance, ithas set the bar for explorations in rhythm. The album was produced, written andarranged by Donati. Virgil’s drumming has arguably been at the leading edge forat least a decade, and as this record displays, his compositional and orchestrationskills are also coming to the fore. Never one to seek approval or security, he hasmaintained an introspective, independent mind, transcending traditionalboundaries, always alert of the possibilities beyond the norm. The 10 tracks on thisalbum are affirmation of these principles, and along the way, features some of thebrightest young musicians bursting onto the scene from all corners of the globe. Some of these young musicians will be featured on this tour; Anthony Crawford onbass, André Nieri on guitar, and Isamu McGregor on keyboards/vocals.“We'vefound our feet in the new millennium… I'm amazed by the virtuosity displayed byso many of the younger players out there now. I'm always on the lookout for newtalent, and I take pride in featuring some of them on this tour” enthuses Donati.

As a sideman he has recently been touring and recording with Allan Holdsworth, and his reverence for Allans music has led him to include some Holdsworthclassics in the set, including Metal Fatigue, Material Real, and Water On The Brain. The show wouldn’t be complete without a tribute to Planet X, with a few tracks from‘Quantum’ to round off the set list.

Virgil was born and raised in Melbourne Australia. From the time he could barelyutter a word, he keenly observed the regular band rehearsals his father held in thehouse. Joining his first rock band and signing with his first major label at age 15was surely the right choice for the young drummer. The band was called `Taste’.This was to give Virgil his early experiences in the studio, with three releases bythe band.

His next taste of commercial success came in the early 90’s with Southern Sons. The band reached double platinum with their debut album. At the same time, throughout the mid 80’s and 90’s, Virgil’s interest in progressive music was

throughout the mid 80’s and 90’s, Virgil’s interest in progressive music wasexploited with several bands he initiated, most notably Loose Change, and later,On The Virg.

In 1996 Virgil uprooted and relocated in the U.S.A., in an attempt to expand ontothe world stage. It has since proved to be a very rewarding and productive time.Recording and touring with the likes of Planet X, Steve Vai, Allan Holdsworth, CAB,Scott Henderson, Steve Walsh, Tribal Tech, Frank Gambale, Tony MacAlpine, BillySheehan, Derek Sherinian, Mark Boals, Michel Polnareff, Dave Stewart, KikoLoureiro, and many others, he continues to push the limits of the instrument toastonishing new levels.
