2015 FNSW State Cup

For the first time in our Clubs history we have 4 teams still left in the quarter

finals of the Football NSW State Cup competition. It took a lot of Tiger spirit

to get us over the line as the U14/1’s got over a determined Sutherland side in

Gwawley Bay 2-0 to advance to a meeting with Hills Pumas.

The 15/1s played an undefeated Sutherland side in Cronulla Seagulls and after

being 1-1 at fulltime scored a golden goal winner to advance to a meeting with

local rivals Auburn District in the quarter finals.

The 17/1’s also went to Golden Goal extra time against Southern Districts side

Mt Pritchard scoring with 1 minute remaining in normal time to force golden

goal extra time where they took the game 3-2 to advance to a meeting with a

Gladesville Hornsby Assoc team in Roselea.

The Ladies Premier League side did it a little easier to take out a young

Canterbury JFC team winning the game 3-0 in a canter and now face one of

the tournament favourites in Sydney Uni.

All of our teams will be playing Sunday week (14/6) at Progress

Park, Auburn. U14’s at 9am, U15’s at 10:15am, U17’s at 11:45am

and LPL at 1:15pm trying to get into the semi finals.

Match Reports Round 4 and 8

11/7 vs Guildford County

If we discount the first ten minutes of the game (where we quickly conceded 3 goals) then I have to say it was a fast paced and very intense match. Clear-ly the other team had some star players but let us focus on our own star performers. Our team certainly put their bodies on the line. Rac-ing Rowan copped a ball straight in his face, Agile Abinesh was grounded by a kick in his ankle and Rock-eting Rhys was left bruised and bleeding after being corked in the knee. Thankfully we still had Capable Calvin, Tackling Tyler and Brave Bianca in our defence. They did us proud in this 4-0 thriller.

Limber Lojana worked well with Keen Kevin in the center providing great support to our strikers. As a result Ambitious Aksharan and Amazing Arsh had shots on goal. It was Jetting JJ who proved to be the player of the match with his outstanding performance in the cen-ter. This was his best game yet.

11/7 vs Greystanes

It seems that our team loves a challenge. With no reserves and a slippery, soggy field our team still put in a stellar performance in this 2-0 loss. We improved as the match progressed. Aksharan did well in goals in the first half while Rhys and Calvin remained solid throughout the match as fullbacks. Rowan was zipping around everywhere trying to sup-port the forwards and Kevin often smashed the ball

forward. In the second half Bianca doggedly marked a wily striker, preventing multiple attacks and Tyler was simply fantastic in goals. The majority of our attacks went through a tireless Abinesh and our player of the match Lojana. A very focused Lojana was invaluable in this match. We lost count of all her excellent ball throws and blocks. The lollies at half time sure did help and was a great outcome to a tough match!

Match Reports Round 8

12/4 vs Dundas 0-8 Loss

Well after flogging Kellyville 8-0 it was our turn to see what that felt like as we came up against the undis-puted heavyweight champion of the world (or so it felt like) in Dundas. At least we weren’t knocked out, our guys kept at it in a consistent performance con-ceding four goals in each half against their super strik-ers. We started with some good defence as Dylan expertly headed a corner away to safety before Chitvan was called upon to make a superb save as keeper. Ricky started a great move forward through the middle, linking with Kuvam who made a smart move passing forward to Aryan to ignite our attack. However we were soon down by two after only a few minutes. David terrorised their right defence as he moved the ball around numerous players as he does week after week! Mukund and Aryan then combined with excellent passing to get through their defence and pressure their keeper. They went on the attack again, but Michael showed great hassle and movement to head the ball out of danger. Yash then made a speedy intercept of their pass and got it to David to go for another run down the side. They won it back, but tried to then go through Bikram but he was too strong for them. We got the ball to Yash who made the move forward, linking with Drashy who was moving fast in sup-porting the play. Athavan showed he has great skill as well as speed as he made an awesome tackle and attacking move for-ward. We didn’t get on the scoreboard but they tried again until they reached Thomas, who made an excel-lent win of the contest and passed through to Aryan to try our attack again. Aravind then showed us what he’s capable of as came through in defence to time a clearing kick perfectly to avert the danger.

Tarun made a few runs through the middle, sheer determination and a lot of skill getting him around their defence. We didn’t get on the scoreboard, but our guys showed plenty of determination and effort in a gutsy match against a superior team. Well played guys!

15/1 vs Auburn FC 0-1 Loss

Our first loss of the season and the disappointment was not really in the result but in the manner in which we played the game. Playing football the way we know we can and this game is pretty much ours but today we played the ball in the air all game, long balls, poor ball control and on top of that we missed the few chances we created. There was no real passing of the ball and we got what we deserved today. In truth Auburn weren't that much better than us but they finished a chance and we didn't. Really poor game of football.

FNSW State Cup

15/1 vs Cronulla Seagulls 2-1 Win After yesterday I was pretty sure today was going to be a football lesson from the undefeated Sutherland side but what a pleasant surprise when the boys rose to the challenge and played the best football they have played this season. Balls went to feet and we defended well and soon enough we found ourselves up 1-0 and it stayed that way until half time. The second half was full of action and Cronulla had the better of it and came at us. We missed a penalty each and deservedly Cronulla got the equaliser with about 10 minutes to go to send us into Golden Goal extra time. In extra time we controlled the game and played pos-session football and got an early goal to win the game and send our supporters into raptures. Great game boys, today you showed what you could do.

Match Reports Round 8

15/1 vs Kellyville 5-0 Win

Midweek game under lights on a freezing cold night at Kellyville and the boys started very well. We were knocking that ball around and found ourselves 2-0 up pretty early which unfortunately meant that we stopped playing and decided that booting the ball instead was the better option. All this did was bring Kellyville back into the game and they were unlucky not to get one back after a defensive error. Second half and we got back on track and even though we had a few anxious moments conceding not one but two penalties, Trent kept them both out improving his record to make it 3 penalty saves in the one week. The result though was never really in doubt we put in three more and although not our best performance we did enough to get the result.

17/2 Wht vs Kellyville 0-0 Draw

On a cold Tuesday night with 11 players we played a determined Kellyville team who had just come of a weekend where they had a win and a draw. Firstly it was great to have a young official referee who offici-ated fairly and wasn't afraid to ping offside's. The game itself was played fairly by both sides and while there was a few hard challenges none of the rubbish that was evident on Saturday occurred. The game itself was a scrappy affair and Kellyville relied on their speedy wingers and forwards but I thought overall apart from some scary moments our backs shut them down effectively. I will make a special mention to Jack our goalkeeper every week this year he has stepped up and the shot he saved in the second half was special. We are still making to many silly errors with our passing but at least we are trying to play a passing game at stages so I won't be critical. It was also pleasing that players while totally buggered kept trying to the last minute. Overall the commitment by the players was evident and the draw was a fair re-sult. First point for the season.

17/2 Wht vs Regents Park 1-4 Loss

You could tell that Regents Park thought they had this game in the bag. Their keeper was not bothering to use his hands when the ball did come into his box and preferred to dribble it back himself towards half-way. So they got the shock of their lives at the 20 minute mark when Steve set up a beautiful pass for Cameron Ak to slot home a clinical goal. Then the mood of the game changed and there were a couple of confrontational incidents that were, shall we say, disappointing. The ref was struggling to keep a lid on it and wisely called an early half-time. The boys were keen to play on and push home the advantage. They were playing really well and con-structing some quality passing combinations. They are obviously learning a few tricks and produced some nice flicks, turns and back passes (well done particularly to Archis & Josh Ak & Parth). This built up pressure and field position and the resulting shots from Steve & Lavan & Abela all went pretty close. Cameron E was a tiger in defence and ran him-self to a standstill. Jordan put on his game face and got stuck into his work. Ryan put on his skates when he got the chance. Jack didn’t put a foot wrong. Their 4 second half goals were all the product of speedy raids and fancy left foot tap dancing to fin-ish them off. Without an official ref, the close calls were always going to be controversial so there were plenty of peo-ple giving the ref some advice. But I had to laugh when a couple of our boys scolded the Pendo crowd for yelling out at the ref. The boys are maturing and handling themselves well on the pitch. They might not be winning games but they are learning life les-sons on the way. All is not lost.

Match Reports Round 8

17/1 vs Auburn District 2-1 Win

A slow start to the game on the weekend with our boy’s slow to warm up to the ball and the oppositions play. Our Midfielders were getting pulled left and right not sealing the holes in the middle they were creating for Auburn FC which gave some white knuck-ling moments for the parents on the sidelines. Some runs by Joel and Daniel were hopeful but un-successful whilst our backs put in a strong effort with Aaron, Petar and Michael. In the 28th Minute Glenn delivered an awesome cross to Arbin who punished the ball in the back of our opponents net making it 1-0 going into half time. Still our boys seem to struggle with accurate passes and consistency and were lucky our backs were on the ball not to mention our keeper Jake. Marcus did well sticking to the Auburn players. Second half started and a Joel set up a beautiful cross finding Alex jumping above everyone and made a fan-tastic header over the keeper bring our score to 2-0. Auburn were not to be outdone though, they stepped up the pace pressuring our backs drawing out our keeper then bouncing the ball down and over Jake in the 61st minute making it 2-1. Pendle Hill 17/1’s just had to stay focused in which they did dominating Au-burns half for the rest of the game to Full time at 2-1. Points awarded were AARON (3) ALEX (2) PETAR (1)

FNSW State Cup

17/1 vs Mt Pritchard 3-2 Win

A cold afternoon and a very damp playing surface at Kemps Creek were the conditions the 17/1s were ready to face, and what made it worse was the fact that our Only Reserve Jared had his ankle that tightly strapped from a serious sprain that he couldn’t tell if it was the cold that was numbing his leg.

From the Whistle Mt Pritchard were fast off the mark putting our backs to work, Glenn in a new positions at the backs with Aaron stepped up to the cause de-fending our side. Mt Pritchard were strong however a couple of passes and we were in the oppositions half just outside the box when a loose ball saw Daniel giving it everything he had smashing it and curving it up to the top right hand corner of the goal putting us on the board at 1-0.Jared went on for approx. 10minutes to help where he could but struggled and was forced to come off leaving us NO reserves for the rest of the match whilst all the while our Opposition were interchanging what seem like every 5minutes. The 17/1’s weren’t focusing, and struggling through saw some scrambled work in our half allowing Mt Pritchard to get a penalty inside the box. Although they got the goal Jake still made a valiant effort just missing getting his hands to it for a save taking us to Half time. The Boys were all over the place struggling to win any ball and some poor defense by our midfielders saw Mt Pritchard get a good hold of possession and mak-ing it past and sealing another goal making it 2-1 there way with only a minute to go. We needed a miracle, a barrage of corners lead to Abdul leaping into the air and equalizing just before the full time whistle blew at 2-2…Now it was time for Golden Goal. A Hunger and determination were now brewing in the boys bellies and they knew they would have to dig deep in order to get through the extra time. Ist half in Golden goal saw the boys stepping up and playing some great football dominating our opposi-tions half with some great shots at goal by Alex, Dan-iel and Joel all to no avail. Once again our Keeper Jake with tremendous saves kept the Pendle Hill boys spir-its high and at the end of 10minutes in the half still the score was deadlocked. In the last half of Golden goal great passing and skills by Bill and off loads by Marcus and James brought about more pressure to Mt Pritchard with our team in the half the entire time, finally a corner kick went up and Arbin out of nowhere went up and scored the decider goal for a breathtaking 3-2 win. A fantastic game boys but let’s not wait till extra time next game before we show them how we CAN play … well done

Match Reports Round 8

45/1 vs Winston Hills 2-0 Loss

The continuing saga of the walking wounded with people injured, carrying injuries, away on holidays and man flu are taking their toll. We started with 12 and Carbon arriving at half time. Players were playing with injuries notably Toey with knee problems and Empty with strapped up ribs. Winston Hills had a full bench so it was always going to be difficult. The Mar-quee was not required again although he was availa-ble to replace some tired legs and bodies. This meant he was fit for the Sydney FC vs Tottenham Hotspur game at 8.00 pm at ANZ Stadium with his family. The Governor lost the toss and we kicked off in the local derby. We were caught ball watching early in the game and went down 1-0. As always our mid-field generals excelled and never gave up. Toey in spite of his injury was all class and read the game well. Taxi was ever reliable with his vision and preci-sion passes. The Maestro dominated his opposing number and set up many promising attacks and plays. The King has a great hit and it is just wide with the keeper no hope of getting if on target. Alas the Gov-ernor wasn’t going to get the hat trick this week and he was reduced to his ever reliable defending roles rather than scoring goals from set pieces. We were caught again not pushing up and they got a goal scored by their new striker with a tad bit of luck off his toe, his second for the day. The second half comes and we are playing better alt-hough at times we were still ball watching and not anticipating enough. Often we didn’t come back and it nearly cost us on a couple of times. If it wasn’t for some excellent saves from a sick Mullet we would have leaked another. His one on one save was bril-liant and one any keeper at any level would be proud of; a top save. The King is close again but without any luck we are going nowhere. Taxi has a wayward shot (for him) and it goes well wide.

So that’s it we held them in the second half with a gritty display, some tired and sore bodies, some guts and some good play at times. Well done by all.

Good points: We played well in the second half with no luck We played some balls to feet We kept our shape in the second half The Marquee didn’t play We held them in the second half and were the

better team Our midfield generals played well Toey’s, the Maestro and Taxi’s vision was there

for all to see Carbon’s left side field control and bustling runs The Mullet’s excellent first class saves Anthony’s lone target role up front The beer afterwards The mateship The true stories The one liners

Bad points: No Perry in defence on the right hand side of the

field No Molly or Spider to bolster the defence Empty’s injury restricting his play Not enough bodies for interchanging Not enough talking until after the game. Limited structure at times Not having the first team on the park for weeks Lack of marking by some players Ball watching and chasing by a couple The Governor doesn’t score

Match Reports Round 8

45/1 (cont)

The Marquee’s man of the match was the Mullet for his world class one on one save. Brownie points to the mid-field generals of Taxi, Toey and the Maestro as well; without them we would be in bigger trouble. Once again the “Stuff-Up Shirt” was not awarded as everyone tried their best and without bodies on the park it is extremely hard for all.

With the number of people available for our Round 4 Catch Up match against North Rocks White we sadly had to forfeit on Sunday 31st May, 2015. Two double headers in a row were just not possible for our team of limited resources right now; with injured players backing up it is just causing us more injuries. Hope-fully we will have a few more fit bodies for next week although the Marquee will not be there to guide and organise the paperwork and drink bottles. He is off to sunny Airlie Beach for his son’s 40th birthday bash. The cards, bottles and ball have been left in good hands so I expect you to win for your Football Direc-tor. Next week (Round 9) we play Kellyville on Satur-day 6th June, 2015 at Binalong Park No. 3 (Theatre of Dreams) with the Kick Off at 3.00 pm.

Again we struggled with very low on numbers due to injuries, holidays and sickness. So unfortunately we had to forfeit today’s game. We would have had to play with around 8 to 9 players at the maximum; with several carrying injuries. The team therefore decided that we couldn’t survive another weekend of double headers as we were likely to have more injuries.

U10/1 Girls vs Castle Hill Utd

On a cold and wet morning without any subs, the Girls put in an outstanding effort. Our Keepers made some good saves in both halves, and one great save in the second. The Girls made good use of the width of field, making lots of attacks on both sides, which pleased Coach Vanessa as this was something she had worked on in training. They had a good spell of pos-session during the second half and created two shots on target. That elusive goal is not far away. The Girls are starting to translate what they are shown in train-ing onto the field during games. The spirit and com-mitment that these Girls play with every week regard-less of the score line is something that Coach Vanessa and parents are extremely proud of.

U16/2 Girls vs Wenty Waratahs 1-1

Round 8 saw the 16/2 girls take on one of the form teams of the comp so far. Both teams were undefeat-ed and each had posted strong results from their re-spective games. This would mean that it had the po-tential to be a really even contest. Despite a heavy pitch both teams started strongly, testing each other’s defence but the tigers held strong and slowly started to take control of the mid-field. Building on this tight defence opportunity start-ed to take shape with Emily A and Maddy H moving down their respective wings, working tirelessly along-side Lara C, Brianna P and Ruth M through the mid-dle. Eventually the deadlock was broken by some clinical passing in the midfield followed by a decisive run into the box from Amy M who struck it low and hard into the net.

Half time came with the tigers holding that lead, 1-0. Changing keepers with Sammi C being replaced by Lara C at half time, the team took the field with a de-termination to continue the work they had started. Wenty came out looking for an equaliser but Kathryn M, Gabby D, Amy E, Madi C and Indigo C all worked with conviction in their respective defensive positions to keep them at bay. Wenty continued to press and after a scramble in the box managed to grab the goal they were after. Mid way through the second half Brianna P took a knock to the knee and had to leave the field, hope you are feeling better soon Bree. Fortunately we had a sub for this game and so were able to keep 11 on the park as Indigo C moved in to join the midfield. Despite letting in the first goal against them in this comp, the girl’s heads did not drop and they came close on many occasions to get back into the lead and it was only because of the Wenty keeper that the scores remained level. This was a good game to watch and one that provid-ed some of the best feedback as to how the team is evolving, they do say you only get better by playing the better teams. Great work so far girls and I am really looking forward

to the next few games as we head towards the sec-

ond half of the season.

LPL vs Canterbury JFC 3-0 Win

Turned up expecting a hard game today in the State Cup but playing against a young U21 side from Can-terbury we were just too big, too strong, too skilful and eventually too good.

Starting with 10 players and finishing with 10 players due to work commitments didn't really make a differ-ence and we controlled the game to get into the Quarter Finals of this tournament.

Sydney Uni next round pose a different threat though so looking forward to the next challenge. Well done girls you did what you had to do and played some good football in the process.

14/2 Girls vs Baulkham Hills 0-1 Loss

An awesome game by all of our girls this week. They utilised existing and new techniques introduces this week at training to give Baulkham Hills a run for their money. Up against the competition leaders who had 5 re-serves and without any reserves of our own, the girls kept the game scoreless up until half time. An unlucky break saw Baulkham Hills score mid way through the second half. Great defence, passing and working to-gether was proving successful. The girls were stronger with their challenging and tackling this week, which kept Baulkham Hills on their toes, with them changing players on a regular basis to keep up with our girls. Well done to all girls. Special mention to Daneal with great defence in the rear of the field with Eden, Mia and Jorja up the mid and side field. Also a great job done by Tanya in goals. Our girls gave they all this week and can hold their heads high with the final results. No we didn't win, (but it isn't always about winning) but we let they know that we aren't a team to be taken lightly. Well done girls. We're so proud of all of you. Finally a special mention and thankyou to our resi-dent photographer Roslyn who manages to capture all the action on a weekly basis. Great pics!

Kookies Corner

I’d like to brighten everyone’s spirts with something we can all

have a good laugh at – the lack of good looking men in the a-league; even the lack of good looking men in football all over the

world. Though we can be thankful that the days of the European mullets are behind us all (much to Vinny’s

dismay), it seems, besides this, there really hasn’t been too much of an improvement. I don’t know where

they’re pulling these boys from but they’ve got to start pulling them from somewhere else. So this week, as a

favour to all my women readers, I’ve scoured high and low to find the top three best looking men in football

today. A hard job, I know, but someone’s got to do it.

Olivier Giroud

So the original plan for this article was to include some player stats, career highlights etc. but with a face like that? Who

needs ‘em! There isn’t anything quite like a Frenchman with a jawline that’s more structured than my entire life. A striker for Arsenal and a part of France’s national team, he has recently been making headlines for being hurt by

Thierry Henry's ''brutal'' criticism of his play. Aw. Suck it up princess. Maybe someone should send him over my way for

a cuddle?

I guess the muscles do not maketh the man; though they are nice to look at…

Radamel Falcao Garcia

This handsome man is best known for his Fabio-esque locks. But you know, it always makes me a little bit

sad inside to find males that have more luscious hair than my own. I wouldn’t hold it against him, however,

as long as he let me stare are him for a good couple of hours while he spoke Spanish.

Christiano Ronaldo

The legend. Named as such because I’m almost positive he is an earthly embodiment

of Christ himself today. Lord have mercy.

Not only is he quite possibly, the best looking specimen to hit the planet earth; he’s

also a great dad, husband (my husband, of course) and still manages to help out with

countless fundraisers and charities. Someone just give him his halo already. (I’ve also

included a bonus picture of his kid because he is just too damn cute for words.)

Honourable mentions:

Granit Xhaka Panagiotis Kone Jack Wilshere Francisco Rodriguez

Some of our own…

Mitch Langerak Lucas Neil Vince Scarcella Aaron Mooy

Note: One of these players has been put in ironically – you decide who. That’s just the way the cookie crumbles.
