Introducing the TigerPaws Catalogue January- December 2015. ”Life altering journeys” .

Welcome to the world of TigerPaw Adventures. First incorporated in India in September of 1982, “TigerPaws” is now in its third decade as a

leading tour company offering once-in-a-lifetime travel experiences around the world.

While the world is in constant transformation and becoming increasingly homogenized, TigerPaws is committed to showing you places,

ecosystems and communities barely unchanged since ancient times. Our unfailing ability to offer a structured, experiential program that is exciting,

diverse and singular, gives us a distinct edge.

Tiger Paws enjoys a sound reputation internationally and we are proud of our many loyal customers who come primarily from USA, Canada,

Europe and the UK, many of whom have become repeat customers and close friends over the years.

TigerPaw’s hallmarks are integrity, reliability of service, versatility and long term commitment, together with innovation and

conscientiousness.

We pride ourselves on our specialist and personalized services which we are able to deliver because of our compact size which has

nevertheless a large footprint in terms of sphere of operations and operational experience. As a result TigerPaws has often been called upon to

cater to large multinational institutions in regions such as India, China and Africa, even while it caters primarily to the individual and small group

traveler.

The company consists of two corporate entities under one brand name:

- TigerPaw Adventures India Pvt Ltd established in India in 1982

- TigerPaw India Adventures Ltd established in Canada in 1995

TigerPaws Canada and TigerPaws India promote each other’s activities and also run specialist trips to other international destinations including

Africa and in particular South Africa.

TigerPaws specialist repertoire and wide ranging thematic itineraries have been assembled as a result of our many years of experience in

India. TigerPaws specializes in custom made holidays and travel experiences and we work with individuals, groups and multinational corporate clients

such as the American Embassy School and Germany’s SPD Reisen.

TigerPaws also owns and operates the Spashram outdoor adventure and wellness retreat on the banks of the Upper Ganges, a tented camp

showcasing ecological best practice and which is currently in the process of being extended. The Spashram brand also offers international

aficionados the opportunity of visiting India and learning about Ayurveda, and Yoga.

Since its inception, TigerPaws has been a pioneering force in Indian adventure travel, initiating more than one trend and celebrating many

significant accomplishments throughout the years, including first descent expeditions on Himalayan rivers, sustainability planning and earning eco-

tourism awards. Our commitment to eco-tourism secured the prestigious BCN Award for Biodiversity Conservation in the Eastern Himalayas (BCN

Wash. DC USA 1995). Additionally, TigerPaw was amongst the first five Indian companies to receive the Environmental Fellowship, awarded by the

Asia Foundation, San Francisco, USA 1994.

KEY UK AND INTERNATIONAL CLIENTELE

TigerPaws has the further distinction of becoming the first private agency in India to design and conduct Outdoor Team Building and

Leadership Development Programs for such large corporate clients as American Express’ Human Resources Division and Hong Kong & Shanghai

Banking Corporation. In the late 1980’s, we were assigned by American Express Travel Related Services India to develop adventure getaways

for its card members as well as Team Building and Leadership programs for American Express TRS-HRD, conducted by CMD IJ SINGH and

EX SAS officer Thomas Bufton. Similarly, various regiments of the British Army including the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment Expedition

Bhilangana Diamond-Garhwal Himalaya, Royal Signals-Himalayan Ski Mountaineering, and Britain’s Royal Air Force-Himalayan Expedition, have

retained TigerPaws to organize numerous mountaineering expeditions and high altitude treks.

Our high standards have always demanded we offer a wide variety of exclusive adventures, allowing for the exploration and discovery

of traditional holiday spots as well as offbeat corners of the Indian Sub-Continent. Success in India empowered us to take on challenges

farther afield and to incorporate in Canada, catering to a worldwide band of loyal clientele. Tiger Paws whose Patron in Chief is Lady Aboyne

has for example been instrumental in bringing England’s famous Public School-Rugby, for a polo clinic to South Africa conducted by IJ Singh

MD of the company, under the Polo & Horseback Holidays brand owned by TigerPaws. Similarly the company has operated in countries such

as China while conducting Canadian corporates on team building programs there, as well as Pakistan for its German Clients.

Amongst other numerous and exclusive clients have been the Chairman Chamber of British Industry Sir Digby Jones (later “Lord Digby

Jones British Minister of Commerce), Sir David John KCMG Chairman British Standards, Vice President of Harvard University Anne Taylor,

Page 4: Tigerpaw adventures e catalog 2015

both of who have been repeat clients tasking us in conducting explorations of India’s remotest territories. Our services have also been

retained for consecutive multi-nation adventures in Africa.

At TigerPaws, we recognize the growing necessity of adapting our services to incorporate your desire to travel to exotic destinations in

safety without forgoing an adventure of exhilarating proportions, at your pace. Your comfort and safety along with imagination and adventure are of

primary consideration and we have worked tirelessly to ensure that your experience with us is a positive one.

We hope you will entrust us with the responsibility of creating and conducting a memorable discovery trip and adventure holiday for you.

INDIA and her wonderful neighourhood (SRI LANKA, BHUTAN, NEPAL, MYANMAAR)

India is a nation which has over twenty two official languages, fifteen hundred and seventy six classified mother tongues, and four hundred

and fifteen living languages, representing a tremendous potpourri of people and cultures with their roots all the way from Central Asia, to Africa, as

well as Europe, and one where a clash of civilizations brings about transformational change on a near daily basis. India in 2014 once again deserves

the close attention of the world. In the closing phase of the year past, a singular accomplishment made a certain set of experts around the world

suddenly sit up and take notice.

These experts were space scientists from around the world, for rarely had there been a successful first launch to Mars the Red Planet.

Western experts remarked and waxed eloquent on the remarkable financial thrift along with the scientific skill displayed by India’s Space Research

Organization.

Not many in the west, and indeed few Indians are aware of the far seeing scientific vision and acumen made by the father of India’s Space

Program Dr. Vikram Sarabhai. Few abroad know too, the story of India’s 11th President, a Muslim aeronautical expert who played a key role in later

years in India’s space research. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalaam helped make India a recognized expert in the launch of space satellites, launching in fact for

European nations amongst others.

As showcased on CNN’s GPS Program by Fareed Zakaria, in the event the Indian democratic experiment works, it will give much hope to

numerous other countries because of the passing of power to the people. This, in sharp contrast to the China model. Few know that countries like

Switzerland and England, only allowed voting for the female population long after Indira Gandhi became one of the world’s first female prime

ministers! Or that in India’s north east, a matriarchal society ensures that title and lands pass onto the eldest “daughter” of the house and that a

man assumes the wife’s surname!

This is the unique contradiction that is India and the many social ills, gender, and regional imbalances, food deprivation and poverty defy at

times the unique accomplishments that India and Indians represent. In fact the ancient values and skills, poses an eternal quality which is what is at

the root of successes as those achieved by India, in space. For, the realm of space is one which is discussed at length in ancient India’s holy texts.

Page 5: Tigerpaw adventures e catalog 2015

What happens in India impacts its neighbours. It is little wonder that there were democratic movements in the Royal Kingdom of Bhutan and

the Monarchy insisted the country go the democratic route. Along with these developments, far reaching social changes came into effect by

changing archaic laws, including law protecting women, and bringing in new ones such as those pertaining to food security for India’s poor, and anti-

corruption. These signify the sweeping change desired by the public, another telling example of the metamorphosis that India has undergone, largely

unnoticed in the west.

TigerPaws therefore invites you to visit India in 2015, to see what makes this country truly tick. Today, ancient traditions and skills

juxtaposed against the march of modernity. Most importantly, the three decade history and experience of TigerPaws, along with cutting edge travel

programs which have social relevance, community elevation and biodiversity protection, hallmarks, that you, the TigerPaws traveller experiences,

when buying one of our trips. This history includes the close association with the escape of the Dalai Lama from Tibet, the achieving of the

prestigious 1995 Bio-Diversity Conservation Award, BCN Wash. DC and first descents on the Lohit River in Arunachal Pradesh for the Indian Army

teams it trained and conducted. See our website for our detailed history, achievements and awards.

OTHER CONTINENTS

TigerPaws has had an active engagement with the African continent. This included the time when it collaborated with Lady Aboyne to send

students from England's prestigious school Rugby, for a polo clinic to South Africa. Numerous American clients have been facilitated by TigerPaws in

Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and South Africa as also Fiji. TigerPaw's African experiences in keeping with its unique style,

therefore offer its customers, a blend of each of these characteristics, regardless of the particular trip they may opt for.

TigerPaws began Polo and Horseback holidays in 1996 (www.poloholidays.com and www.horsebackholidays.com) including in Argentina, Chile and

Mexico. Besides India, we have taken our clients on horse treks and polo vacations in Tibet, the Chilean Andes, and Mexico. TigerPaws which has in

the past sent clientele to Australia for outdoor adventures on foot, horse or 4x4 , has now begun to work with one of Australia's largest Cruise

Yacht marine experiences company TRUE NORTH. True North's sophisticated boats and programs offering wonderful coastal and inlet experiences

are a cut above to what is otherwise available.

We look forward to helping you plan your visit in the New Year- to India, its neighbours or indeed, other locations.

Cordially and with best wishes for a Safe 2015, from the entire TigerPaws team,

Lady Aboyne – Patron In Chief

We returned from India a week ago and wanted to share some photos with you, and also let you know that we had a marvelous experience. IJ and his staff were very attentive and helped my

family experience an unforgettable trip. We visited both the Golden Triangle (New Delhi, Agra, Jaipur) in the north, and regions in Kerala and Karnataka in the south. We all left India

loving it and wanting more. Attached are some of my favorite photos I wanted to share with you by the way we all gained weight.... food was great and no-one got sick :-) ! India is completely

full of surprises, an assault to all senses, and more diverse than can be imagined. The people were lovely. I will copy IJ onto this email and also take the opportunity on behalf of my family to

thank you for recommending TigerPaws immensely!!!

Sincerely, Mike JULY 3 2014 Miami Florida USA

ANIMAL KINGDOMS OF CENTRAL INDIA, AND NORTHERN INDIA’S GOLDEN

TRIANGLE

This itinerary explores the rich vein of biodiversity in the heart of India, spending nights

at deluxe lodges. In the south, the tropical green is at contrast to the dry forests of the

north especially in summer. Between the two zones, very special encounters with the

royal Bengal tiger, the asiatic elephant and bird life of the region await. In addition,

numerous smaller but equally interesting species of the Indian jungle ranging from sloth

bear, spotted deer, nilgai or blue bull, rhesus macaque, and possibly, the rare caracal,

civet cat and others, may just be spotted.

Along with these highlights, the amazing monuments of a bygone era, including Jaipur in

India’s desert Kingdom of Rajasthan with both its ancient grandeur as well as modern

buzz, before the calm of the south, provide you with the contrasting shades, that India is

all about.

The entire trip was tremendous fun, including the elephant jungle safaris and seeing India’s spectacular wildlife. Seeing so many tigers in particular was

something only TigerPaw could have pulled off!

TRIP BW-WL 056 THE TEMPLES & TIGERS OF CENTRAL INDIA, AND WILDLIFE OF NORTH

EAST INDIA

The rich wildlife of India’s sanctuaries and national parks located in the different states

include noteworthy ones in the central region or heartland of India.

Madhya Pradesh (Central India) is the second largest state of India in terms of its size.

Right in the heart of India. Blessed with thick green forests and a large variety of

wildlife Madhya Pradesh is nature's trough. Kanha and Bandhavgarh national parks are

world famous national parks. The king of the forest may be easily sighted at Kanha and

Bandhavgarh. Equally at home in the jungles of Kanha and Bandhavgarh is the Gaur

who does not fear the tiger.

Dampa wildlife Sanctuary which is a Project Tiger Reserve is situated at the western

part of Mizoram along the international border with Bangladesh, lies at a distance of 127Km from the capital of Aizawl.

Dampa consists of moist deciduous forest at lower reaches and evergreen and semi-evergreen forests with natural grassland at higher

altitudes. It is the largest sanctuary of Mizoram notified in 1985 covering an area of 500 Sq. km which later became a Project Tiger in 1994.

The list of animals found in the area includes Tiger, Sloth Bear, Leopard, Elephants, Sambar, Barking Deer, Hoolock Gibbon, Giant Squirrel,

Flying Squirrel, Wild Dog, Wild Pig, Porcupine, Slow Loris, Gaur, Leaf monkey, Capped langur, Rhesus macaque, and some species of small cats.

So far 215 birds have been recorded here and an ardent birder is likely to find more.

This Itinerary explores Kanha National Park, Bandhavgarh National Park, Khajuraho, Shivpuri and Dampa Tiger Reserve.

WILDLIFE OF SOUTHERN INDIA, AND ISLAND HOLIDAY IN THE ANDAMAN ISLANDS

Andaman: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands were shrouded in mystery for centuries

because of their inaccessibility. They are a paragon of beauty and present a landscape

replete with scenic and picturesque splendor. The Islands are the emeralds of the Bay

of Bengal. The dense forests covering these islands and the innumerable exotic fish,

flowers and birds paint a most colorful landscape along with white beaches on the edge

of a meandering coastline which has palm trees that sway to the rhythm of the sea.

During the British Raj India's revolutionaries considered too dangerous to the interests

of the Raj, and other dreaded criminals were deported from the mainland to the Cellular

Jail an Indian Gulag, situated on the sea coast of Atlanta Point in the North-Eastern part

of Port Blair. Thus these islands were infamously known as the 'Black Water Prison' or

'Kala Pani'.

The following itinerary explores the richest vein of biodiversity in the heart of India. In

the south, the tropical green will be at in contrast to the dry forests of the north

experiencing summer. Between the two zones, very special encounters with the royal

Bengal tiger and the Asiatic elephant and bird life of the region await.

In addition numerous smaller but equally interesting species of the Indian jungle ranging from sloth bear, spotted deer, nilgai or blue bull,

rhesus macaque, and possibly, the rare caracal, civet cat and others, may just be spotted.

The geo-climatic diversity of the Indian sub-continent has nurtured and sheltered a whole range of wildlife with over 350 species of

mammals and 1200 species of birds in the country. While there is an overlap in the habitats of many species, each region has something

special too. Two of India's most impressive animals, the Bengal/Indian Tiger and the Asiatic Elephant are found in most regions. Both, the

tiger and a herd of elephants in the wild are an awesome sight!!! Today, most of India's wildlife finds refuge in over two hundred sanctuaries

and parks around the country. The following Itinerary includes some of the more important ones in the South of India.

Bharatpur, one of Asia's most outstanding wetland reserves, along with a

productive stretch of the perennial Chambal River and the semi-desert of

Ranthambhore, provides an excellent introduction to the resident and migratory

birds of the north Indian plains.

The tour begins in eastern Rajasthan at Ranthambhore National Park, where we

have can chance on tiger on jeep drives in one of India's finest tiger reserves,

while also enjoying an array of dry land species that thrive in the combination of

acacia scrub, rocky outcrops and open plains. From here we move on to

Bharatpur, undoubtedly India's most famous bird sanctuary whose artificial

wetlands and the mosaic of habitats that surround them support an impressive

number of water birds, raptors and passerines. We end the tour with an

exploration of the Chambal River, one of India's cleanest waterways and of

crucial importance to a distinctive avifauna, and Ganges River Dolphin, one of India's most endangered mammals.

An interesting tour that samples a variety of habitats and their associated species, and provides a glimpse of a rich culture and history with a

visit to India's most iconic monument, the Taj Mahal. Excellent opportunities for sightings of two if India's most sought after mammals, with

birding particularly productive during the winter months when resident species are augmented by large numbers of migratory birds, whose

presence is most conspicuous as large congregations of waterfowl that gather in the region's wetlands.

SAILING THE MIGHTY BRAHMAPUTRA, AND THE WILDLIFE OF NORTH EAST & CENTRAL INDIA

The rich wildlife of India’s sanctuaries and national parks located in the different states

include noteworthy ones in the central region or heartland of India. In the North East, the

frontier wilderness of Assam is experienced on the vast Brahmaputra river cruise. The Son of

Bhrama from where the river takes its name is often 20 or 30 km across, a world of sand

spits and water with marvellous bird life and the occasional but Gangetic Dolphin. Off this

cruise we are able to visit one of India’s greatest National Parks, Kaziranga. Between the

central Indian and Assam regions one will have seen the royal Bengal tiger, sloth bear, stag,

wild Asiatic elephant and the one horned rhinoceros.

ASSAM CRUISES, BRAHMAPUTRA. Wildlife and wilderness are the main features of a cruise in Assam on the vast Brahmaputra River – the

river bed is often 20 or 30 km across, an empty world of sand pits and water with marvellous bird life and the occasional Gangetic Dolphin.

The cruises here also give access to a number of India’s National Parks, including Kaziranga, perhaps the finest of all, and Manas, a Project

Tiger reserve on the Bhutan border

Madhya Pradesh (Central India) is the second largest state of India in terms of its size. Right in the heart of India, it is blessed with thick

green forests and a large variety of Wildlife Madhya Pradesh is nature's trough. Kanha and Bandhavgarh national parks have been very

famous national parks around the world. The king of the forest may be easily sighted at Kanha and Bandhavgarh. Equally at home in the

Jungles of Kanha and Bandhavgarh is the Gaur who does not fear the tiger.

From her second trip The entire trip was tremendous fun, including the elephant jungle safaris and seeing India’s spectacular wildlife. Seeing so many tigers in particular was

something only TigerPaw could have pulled off! “Eugenia Hunter”-USA

The coastal regions of Kerala have a network of waterways, inlets, estuaries, lakes

and natural canals connecting coastal towns. This interlinked body of waterways is

known as the backwaters in Kerala, over 900 km of which is navigable. Travelling in

traditional houseboats along these backwaters to enjoy the scenic landscape is a

wonderful experience.

The leisurely cruise along the famous backwaters of Kerala gives one a first hand

experience of the village life style in the state and its rustic activities like coir-

making and prawn farming. You cannot miss the breathtaking view of the water,

land, birds and human habitation on the water side, coexisting peacefully.

On a cruise, your world is a spacious houseboat all your own, your senses filling

with silence and space, at their purest and most alluring. So lean back on a cushion

and glide beneath the inverted bowl of the sky. Look outside, look within. Look beyond both. The Japanese call it Satori. And it is available here at your leisure.

The following itinerary explores the richest vein of biodiversity in the heart of India, spending nights at deluxe lodges. In the south, the tropical

green will be at in contrast to the dry forests of the north experiencing summer. Between the two zones, very special encounters with the royal

Bengal tiger a the asiatic elephant and bird life of the region await. In addition numerous smaller but equally interesting species of the Indian

jungle ranging from sloth bear, spotted deer, nilgai or blue bull, rhesus macaque, and possibly, the rare caracal, civet cat and others, may just

be spotted.

RAJASTHAN’S BANESHWAR TRIBAL FAIR

AN ENCOUNTER WITH THE FOREST AND NOMADIC TRIBES OF WESTERN INDIA

Baneshwar Fair is organized in the month of January-February at a small delta

formed by the river Som and Mahi in Dungarpur District, from Magh Shukla

Ekadashi to Magh Shukla Poornima. The name Baneshwar is derived from the

Shiva Linga in the Mahadev temple of Dungarpur, Rajasthan. Majority of the people

who attend the fair are Bhils, a tribal community of Rajasthan. Bhils or tribal

people from Dungarpur, Udaipur and Banswara constitute the major part of the

gathering. The fair is very famous and is organised at a very large level. The pran-

pratishtha ceremony of the idols to the temple was performed on Magh Shukla

Ekadashi. Since then onwards a fair is organized every year to celebrate this

auspicious event. The other celebrations of the Baneshwar Fair include magic shows, folk dances, acrobatic feats and animal shows.

The Baneshwar fair is a combination of two fairs. One fair is organised to pay tribute to the Lord Shiva, known as Baneshwar Mahadev. And the

other fair is held to celebrate the completion of the construction work for the Vishnu temple by Jankunwar, the daughter-in-law of Saint Mavji.

The priest or Mathadish arrives in a massive procession to the fair site from Sabha and takes a dip into the river. Then Aarti of the Mathadish is

performed and Raslila are reenacted in the night at the Lakshmi Narayana temple.

THE GOLDEN TEMPLE OF THE SIKHS:

The Golden Temple , also known as Harmandir (also Darbar) Sahib was the inspiration of Guru Arjan Dev Ji the fifth Sikh Guru. In keeping with

Sikh the pir to lay the foundation of Darbar Sahib in Jan, 1588. Characterised by its unique entrance doors facing all your directions of the

compass, the Golden Temple welcomes everyone regardless of the religion or faith and services langar (free food) throughout the day. The

sunning sanctum, shimmering in the water of the holy tank (sarovar), flanked by spotlessly clean marble walkways makes it breathtakingly

beautiful.

Dear Inderjit, Thank you so much for these greetings. I did forward your earlier email re the Sikh soldiers in World War ! on to some friends. And Sikhs have even been in my local newspaper. They printed a wonderful photo of a Sikh worshipper in the sacred pond at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. I think I am probably the only person in Port Angeles who has actually been there! It was a high point of my trip with Leslie and you. Best wishes to you and your family for 2014. “Laurie Reeve”

NAGALAND’S HORNBILL FESTIVAL

The hornbill festival held in the first week of December shows that with its stunning

natural beauty and great cultural traditions, Nagaland can offer a rich fare to

tourists.

NAGALAND, with its diverse tribal culture, is a land of festivals. A narrow strip of

mountainous territory with rugged hills, emerald valleys, sparkling streams and a

rich variety of flora and fauna, the 16th State of the Indian Union has salubrious

climate throughout the year. It is bounded by Assam in the west, Myanmar in the

east, Arunachal Pradesh in the north and Manipur in the south. Sometimes referred

to as the `Switzerland of the East', Nagaland represents unimaginable beauty, moulded perfectly for a breath taking experience.

The least explored and arguably most beautiful region of India, the northeast is connected to the rest of the country by a narrow stretch of

land between Bhutan and Bangladesh, and was all but sealed off from the outside world until relatively recently. Arunachal Pradesh shares

an extremely sensitive frontier with Chinese-occupied Tibet and, together with Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram, a 1600km-border with

Myanmar.

In KOHIMA itself, whilst visiting the HORNBILL VILLAGE, we would be able

to see typical village huts of all 16 Naga tribes living in NAGALAND and

Border areas. We get a good idea as to how they all live. Their staple food

is rice, generally cooked with meat or vegetables. They are fond of beef,

pork, chicken, dogs, cats almost any living thing! Chillies are used in good

quantity; milk is only now becoming popular. Rice Beer is produced locally

and drunk by everyone. Salt is only now available.

Naga villages were built on hilltops, a defensive strategy against inter

village rivalries, and are fortified with stonewalls, bamboo spikes and

wooden gates. The ‘village always came first’ and the society was so

organised that the basic requirements of food, clothing and shelter are

guaranteed to all the members. There are no absentee landlords, and no

class of landless peasents.

Nagas are of sub-medium height, the facial index is very low, the nasal

index corresponds to a medium nose, the hair is generally straight, the

skin is brownish yellow. The eyes significantly do not show Mongolian

form. Every group of Nagas has theories about their origin. The Angamis,

Semas, Rengams and the Lotha's subscribe to the Kheza-Kenoma legend.

Tribal dances are performed mainly during festivals, marriages and harvest. War dances, dance during festivals of each tribe and bamboo

dance are some of the commonest. When the ritual is performed, the dancers are usually clothed in colourful costumes and jewellery.

The tribes had been maintaining a life and tradition of their own different to other race. Contrary to the fact that they might not open up to the

outside world, the Nagas' striking characteristics is their hospitality and cheerfulness.

ISLANDS

The Andaman Islands are a group of Indian Ocean archipelagic islands in the Bay of

Bengal, between the Indian peninsula to the west and Burma to the north and east.

Most of the islands are part of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Union Territory of

India, while a small number in the north of the archipelago, such as the Coco

Islands, belong to Burma.Hike the twisting roads to Mount Harriet, once the

summer resort of the British, to get a panoramic view of Port Blair and surrounding

islands like Ross Island, Viper Island and Jolly Buoy Island. The interesting fact

about the Andamans is that you don’t even have to travel far and wide to witness

marvels of nature. Look outside your window to catch the sparkle of the

lighthouses sprinkled on neighboring isles or spot the unique Emerald Nicobar Pigeon flying by gracefully.

Walking the white sands of Asia’s best beach – Radhanagar on Havelock Island is an experience in itself. The turquoise water is so clear that

you can see the flora and fauna on the sea bed. For spectacular corals, wade in to the water and they’ll be right there. Underwater

adventures at the Jolly Buoy and the Red Skin Islands are a must, even for the uninitiated. Snorkel or scuba dive into the mesmerizing

unexplored world of colourful fish and intriguing coral reefs. Due to incidents of exploitation in the past, visiting Jarawa tribal territory is now

banned. For an insight in to their lives, visit the Anthropological Museum in Port Blair.

The one truly magical island around Port Blair which is definitely not to be missed is "the Havelock", known for its warm azure blue and very pleasant tropical

sea with enchanting virgin beaches of white sands. And as I thought it was / will be an unforgettable journey for both of us

Kerala is home to some of the best beaches and backwaters in the world. It is also the

home of beautiful temples like the Swami Ayyappa Temple, various churches, synagogues

etc. in Kerala. Kovalam Beach is a very popular beach of untold beauty. Kerala is well

known for its ayurvedic treatments and spas. Alleppey is full of lagoons, backwaters, canals, coir factories and lovely nature with lush green plantations.

Kovalam is an internationally renowned beach with three adjacent crescent beaches. It

has been a favourite haunt of tourists, especially Europeans, since the 1930s. A massive

rocky promontory on the beach has created a beautiful bay of calm waters ideal for sea bathing.

Munnar is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams - Mudrapuzha,

Nallathanni and Kundala. 1,600 m above sea level, this hill station was once the summer

resort of the erstwhile British Government in South India. Sprawling tea plantations,

picture-book towns, winding lanes and holiday facilities make this a popular resort town.

To explore the historic town of Fort Kochi, there is no better choice than setting out on foot. Relax, breathe deep and come out in cotton

dresses, soft shoes and yes - a straw hat. At each and every nook of this island steeped in history, there is something amusing awaiting you. It

is a world of its own, retaining the specimens of a bygone era and still proud of those days. If you can smell the past, nothing can stop you from walking through these streets.

TRIP SPT-040 YOGA, AYURVEDA AND MEDITATION ON THE MOTHER GANGES

Spashram RiverMountain Retreat is situated on the Upper Ganges, 32 km upstream of Rishikesh (Uttrakhand) in the foot hills of

the Himalayan, 280 kms by road from New Delhi. The site is located on a rugged mountain escarpment , descending all the way

down to the river Ganges and its silver beaches, through original and afforested verdure. Using ecomagination and vision only

limited areas have been “humanized “and much kept as wild land.

It provides the perfect place to take one’s yoga and meditation practice to the next level. We will practice yoga and meditation on

the banks of the Ganges River, and experience the sights and sounds of this ancient culture.

Two nights were not enough to enjoy the natural beauty of Spashram and surrounding areas. Staying in tents you are never far away from the

sounds of the river, the birds and other wildlife. Yoga on the beach was memorable for me and after two days o f sampling the

natural spring water, local organic food and fresh clean air, I felt completely rejuvenated. For the more active, you can experience rock climbing,

hiking or river-rafting. Otherwise, relax and enjoy therapies such as Reflexology and Massage and soak in the sunshine on the white sand beach.

Excellent friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble! “Jacquie Denbow” (Devon, UK)

TRIP SPT 041 EXPLORING INDIA’S BUDDHIST HERITAGE SITES AND THE

SPIRITUAL CITY OF VARANASI In the ancient text the Mahaparinirvana sutra, the Buddha informs his followers

that to attain merit and a noble rebirth, they should by go on pilgrimage to this

birthplace (Lumbini), and also where he gained enlightenment (Bodhgaya), first

taught (Sarnath), and attained Nirvana (Kushinagar).

Lumbini: Lumbini in southern Nepal is where Queen Mayadevi gave birth to Prince

Siddhartha. It is just a short distance from the Shakya capital of Kapilavastu.

Pilgrimages focus on the sacred garden which contains the site of the birth, the

Mayadevi temple, the Pashkarni pond and the Ashoka pillar.

Bodhgaya: It was in Bodhgaya in Bihar, India that Prince Siddhartha found

Enlightenment (nirvana) under the bodhi tree after meditating for 49 days. No

longer a bodhisattva (mentor), he became Lord Buddha, the Enlightened One.

Sarnath: Buddha gave his first sermon at Sarnath after achieving enlightenment, about 10 km from the ancient holy city of Varanasi. It was

here that the Buddha established his first disciples (sangha) to promote his new doctrine. The splendid Dhamekha Stupa at Sarnath was

originally erected by King Ashoka, as was the famous lion capital pillar, now the proud symbol of India.

Kushinagar: At Kushinagar, Lord Buddha fell ill and left this world in 543 BC. His mortal remains were preserved in eight commemorative

chortens, and then further distributed by King Ashoka into 84,000 stupas across his kingdom and beyond.

This Itinerary explores Gaya, Bodhgaya, Nalanda, Varanasi, Sarnath, Kushinagar, Lumbini, Sravasti and the Taj Mahal at Agra .

The monuments of ancient India span aeons and showcases the workmanship of many

an empire. Additionally, the architecture of colonial India, both oriental as well and

European, showcases a rich variety of Mughal and English architecture, along with Indo

Saracenic and Indo European styles. Each of these set in varying regions, one distinct

from the other.

The tour includes the temples of Tamil Nadu and the serene natural beauty of Kerala.

Where food is served on banana leaves. Also included are the see food and Portuguese

Christian architecture of Goa.

The subject of the tour is vast and while we scratch the surface, we get a sense of the

sophistication which is noticeable in both aspects, and enough to satiated in mind and

body on this visit. In the realm of architecture, amongst other monuments are those of

the Ajanta and Ellora Caves near Aurangabad, which leave and indelible impression, as

do the Ghats of Varanasi, a once in a lifetime experience, even for the most seasoned

traveller.

The evening in the New Delhi airport was quite an experience –WOW! So many people so late at night… it was incredible! What an experience we had! All

of the Guides and agents were so good to us: we enjoyed every single place that you recommended. We have so many good memories-and pictures and

The Bhavnath festival honours Lord Shiva - the third God of the Hindu Triad

ensconced in myths and legends of the ancient (Puranic) era. The fair itself is so

ancient that its precise origins are unknown. Like any other Indian Mela, you will

see the people in their traditional colorful dresses enjoying themselves. Another

novelty is Naga bavas /Sadhus…as one sees them in Kumbh Mela.

The Bhagoria is a Festival of Love (and elopement) where tribes of Central India,

celebrate the annual crop yield after the winter harvest season comes to an end.

The onset of spring and approaching Holi is the time for everyone, (Festival of

Colors) celebrate. BHAGORIA is a riotous celebration of life and love marked by

music, dance and colour.

The tribal fairs based on the lunar calendar are particularly colorful.

“A big thank you to Tiger Paw for taking me for my third visit to the fabulous Bhagoria festivals in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. I have travelled extensively

People from all corners of India, rather the world gather, at Mathura-Vrindavan every year to feel the essence of Holi in the land of Krishna.

The underlying feeling of this fun-frolic was love and devotion. Even today, romance can be experienced in the very atmosphere in the Krishna-

One of the major festivals of the India, Holi is celebrated with enthusiasm and gaiety on

the full moon day in the month of Phalgun which is the month of march as per Gregorian

calendar. Holi festival may be celebrated with various names and people of different

states might be following different traditional. But, what makes Holi so unique and

special is the spirit of it which remains the same throughout the country and even

across the globe, wheneverit is celebrated.

The Festival of Holi is the Festival of Colors and unifies much of Hindu India in the

north. It is the celebration of spring and harvest and is also a time to let one’s hair

down when ancient customs and the rigidity of tradition observed on a daily basis is

abandoned. While there are many places where the festival of Holi is full of riotous color, the one at Vrindavan is particularly enchanting.

Delhi is a city that bridges two different worlds. Old Delhi, once the capital of Islamic

India, is a labyrinth of narrow lanes lined with crumbling havelis and formidable

mosques. In Delhi, you will discover that the city is sprinkled with dazzling gems :

captivating ancient monuments, fascinating museums and art galleries, architectural

wonders, a vivacious performing-arts scene, fabulous eating places and bustling markets.

Rajasthan's beautiful Pink City Jaipur, was the stronghold of a clan of rulers whose three

hill forts and series of palaces in the city are important attractions. Known as the Pink

City because of the colour of the stone used exclusively in the walled city, Jaipur's

bazaars sell embroidered leather shoes, blue pottery, tie and dye scarves and other

exotic wares. Western Rajasthan itself forms a convenient circuit, in the heart of the Thar desert which has shaped its history, lifestyles and architecture.

The world famous Taj Mahal was constructed by Shahjahan in the memory of his beloved queen Mumtaj Majhal earning Agra earned world

fame. Emperor Shah Jahan's reign was remembered as the golden period for construction of magnificent buildings. Agra was made a district in

1805 A.D. and a collector was posted (there) by the British. Agra presidency was founded in 1833 A.D. as capital of the United Provinces. After

the 1857 Indian mutiny (or First war of Independence) the capital of the United Provinces was shifted from Agra to Allahabad. After India’s

Independence, Agra went back to being a Commissionary.

At Puri and Konark in Orissa, one realizes the depths of the Indian religious

traditions and experience the peace that seems to stay within the walls of these

religious structures.Travel to Bhubaneswar and feel the splendor of the land that

was the main battleground of Kalinga, where emperor Ashoka massacred his

opponents and later adopted the Buddhist faith. The Buddhist monasteries,

temples and other ancient monuments located in naturally beautiful environs

create a wondrous effect. Experience the magic of the East, within India.

Orissa is also known for its unique tribal woven fabrics and sarees known as Ikat.

Ikat is produced in remote tribal villages, a hallmark being tribal designs and motifs .

Puri is known for the Jagannath temple, named after Lord Jagannath and is renowned for the Jagannath festival. Each year the temple

chariot carrying Lord Jagannath’s statue, is carried in a procession made up of a mass of humanity. Infact the English word "Juggernaut" has

its origins here, because ever since the British saw it, the name stuck.

Orissa also has wondrous forest and mamaliam life. The famous American cat expert Dr Charles McDougal, and the renowned anthropologist

Dr Verrier Elwyn before him, conducted much of their research in tiger, and tribals respectively, here in Orissa.

CEO's CHALLENGE- LADAKH HIMALAYA-WALKING THE CHADAR-THE ICE WALK ON THE FROZEN ZANSKAR

Walking on the frozen Zanskar river is an experience of a lifetime for adventure

lovers. The traditional name "Chadar “ or “sheet” refers to the frozen pathway,

which was the only way in and out for Zanskaris in winter, when all other routes are

closed due to heavy snow. A trade route for centuries ,now the route is renowned for

winter trekking among adventurers. Using trained local Zanskari porters and

experienced guides, and we are able to see the least interfered with microcosms of

Ladakh, and thus one of the last few surviving cultural satellites of Tibet.

This geographical isolation together with the esoteric nature of Buddhism practiced here, has enabled its some ten thousand inhabitants to

preserve and perpetuate their cultural identity. The Chadar trek allows you to penetrate this isolation and to examine some of the villages

along the Zanskar river in the midst of winter. A visit to the ancient monastic establishments of Karsha and Zangla heightens one’s insight of

what lies behind the Zanskar Mountains, or the Inner Himalaya. Chilling and Lingshed are the only sizeable villages on this trek until

Hanamur and Pidmo before Pishu and Zangla in Zanskar. The trek is a challenge for not just natives but for outsiders as well. TigerPaws uses

its expertise to make the experience possible for the city slicker as a challenge for CEO’s and others who may be interested in testing

themselves in multiple ways.

Ladakh, or western Tibet is a moonscape with a unique culture, largely Buddhist.

Our trek offers not only views of the many natural vistas of Ladakh, but also some

of its most famous monasteries and perspectives on the traditional lifestyle of the

Ladakhis. Around 125 kms. west of Leh, on a spectacularly beautiful road, lies the

earliest surviving monastery of Ladakh, known as Yung-drung or the Swastika. The

Gompa is remarkably built on sand stone and dates to the 11th Century. The

monastery has a remarkable history and the surrounding area presents an

interesting topography that is spread with yellow loess formation. The Alchi

monastery lies 69 kms. west of Leh, the most famous and largest of all the Gompa

built by Rinchen Zangpo in 11th Century. The monastery houses some of the best

murals and frescoes representing the Kashmiri style of Buddhist iconography. Each

TRIP ADV-BS 034 CHALLENGE-OVERLAND: LADAKH HIMALAYA: OPTIONS:4X4-ON FOOT-BY BICYCLE

India has always been my dream destination since birth. There is something about the divinity of the place and culture of India. Though I have never visited

Leh in person I have got plenty of friends who have touted this place a lot in their blogs and websites. Indeed a beautiful and serene place.

"Mellisa Turner · Edinburgh, United Kingdom"

This Itinerary is covered by Road. Trip Commences Delhi. Surface (Motor) by air con chauffeured vehicle with travel guide, Int'l arrival-

departure New Delhi, add two nights minimum

With an unmatchable ‘blueness’ in the sky and wonderfully unique vistas of lofty

brown desert mountains, monasteries perched on hilltops and bright windows

adorning white washed ‘Lego like’ houses, Leh is nothing short of a topographical

wonder. Looking at the surreal landscape around you, you will certainly be gasping

from something other than the altitude. Surrender to the warm Tibetan hospitality

and savour your surroundings.

This Ladakh bike tour is designed as a ‘cycle as you please’ one! The cycling trail is

perfect for those who like a blend of challenging portions to pedal, as well as easy

fun rides with enough downhill sections to whizz through. From the perspective of

physical challenge, you will be up against an average altitude of 12000 feet, windy

passes, sharp meandering turns and virtually no roads at times, though at any given

time, the backup van will be close at hand for those who want to be more indulgent.

We will ride for the first 5 days through the beautiful Aravali Mountains, passing lakes, rivers and remote tribal villages. On the way it is

possible to visit the majestic Kumbhalgarh fort and the beautiful Ranakpur Jain temple. On the last 5 days we ride through (semi) desert

35 kilometers on Marwari horses, with a professional English speaking guide on an extra horse.

“Galloping through the desert on a Marwari is an experience only to be had in Rajasthan, but its hard to say if I enjoyed the Polo ponies on the Dhoondwar

ride or Marwaris from Dundlod more... riding through villages where time has stood still since the 15th century –women on their looms weaving carpets,

children following as we made our way to the palace - turned - hotel with grooms wating to receive our horses. The hospitality was beyond courteous and I

EQUESTRIAN CLINIC FOR BEGINNERS

Accomplishment in equestrian sport and management entails a much greater

degree of awareness and multi coordination, as compared to other activities,

for the horse is a complex animal capable of some of the greatest feats after

training, as compared to other animals. It will be noted that highly developed

countries have a corresponding advancement in equestrian management and

equitation. It is no wonder that the famous American General George Patton,

undertook to rescue the famous Lipizzaner Horses during WW2, and that the

famous Spanish School of Riding in Vienna today can as a result showcase the

graceful maneuvers that the Lipizzaner are renowned for.

Working with horses, involves perseverance, endurance, long training, high

responsibility to avoid risk and danger. Some of the most famous schools in

the world make riding a key part of their curriculum. In the Netherlands

recently, new school structures have been created where a school is integrated

into a large equitation center, so that students do not have to travel far for

learning this sport. India’s most famous school Mayo College is known for its

century old tradition of equitation as does Rugby School England, estd. in the

1700’s and many schools in US, Germany France and New Zealand.

This program offers a unique opportunity to receive ‘hands on’ exposure to the world of the horse, horse sports and also the equestrian

heritage. Unique cultural aspects of Indian culture issues will also be portrayed.

INDIA’S TROPICAL SOUTH, AND SRI LANKA’S EMERALD BEACHES AND WILDLIFE

SOUTH INDIAN culture refers to the culture of the South Indian states

of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. South Indian culture though

with its visible differences forms an important part of the Indian culture. The South

Indian Culture is essentially the celebration of the eternal universe through the

celebration of the beauty of the body and motherhood. It is exemplified through

its dance, clothing, and sculptures.

SRI LANKA has seduced travellers for centuries. Marco Polo described it as the

finest island of its size in the world, while successive waves of Indian, Arab and

European traders and adventurers flocked to its palm-fringed shores, attracted by

reports of rare spices, precious stones and magnificent elephants. Poised just above

the Equator amid the balmy waters of the Indian Ocean, the island’s legendary

reputation for natural beauty and plenty has inspired an almost magical regard even

in those who have never visited the place.

Romantically inclined geographers, poring over maps of the island, compared its outline to a teardrop falling from the tip of India or to the

shape of a pearl (the less impressionable Dutch likened it to a leg of ham), while even the name given to the island by early Arab traders –

Serendib – gave rise to the English word “serendipity”.

I had the most amazing 3 week trip ever to Sri Lanka (November 2008) . The island really does have so much to offer - nature, amazing beaches and

countryside, beautiful wildlife, the most incredibly interesting historical and religious sites, wonderful food, good choice of accommodation to suit all

budgets... I could go on and on! Undoubtedly the best way to see the country is to hire a guide and/or driver - it's the fastest way to cover a lot of ground

and see all the sites but more importantly, it's how you are most likely to gain a true insight into the Sri Lankan way of life and the lovely Sinhalese

people!

THE DRAGON KINGDOM OF BHUTAN

Bhutan, the ‘Land of the Thunder Dragon’ was isolated and almost unknown to the

modern world, in the annals of twentieth century history. This coupled with its unique

culture and topography makes it so special and enchanting. To preserve this culture and

natural beauty , the country is taking cautious measures to ensure that progress does

not cause any irreversible damage to the eco-system.

Bhutan’s culture shows how to balance ancient culture with Himalayan range, the Bhutan Himalaya extend up to 340 km.

Thimphu Tsechu is one of the biggest festivals in the capital. Celebrated annually in the autumn season for a period of 3-4 days, this festival

is a ceremonyof colors with a happy amalgamationof the changing nature and the many moods of the the Bhutanese culture. The highlight of

the Thimpu. Tsechu showcases of ethnic folk dance in the famous Tashichho Dzong in Thimpu. The court yard of this Dzong is the platform for

the performance that is marked by traditionally designed colorful marks. Starting above Thimphu, our fabulous trek takes us to some

mesmerizing high altitude lakes. This six day trek follows a little used route. Though the highest camp is 14,104ft/4300m from sea level, the

route takes us up to a lofty 15,416ft/4700m, from where you have a mesmerising view of the mountains. This is rated as a medium difficulty

trek. Part of Bhutan’s cultural magic is reflected in its festivals, known as the Tshechus. These have a slow and ancient rhythm and cadence

and the dresses, masked dances and music truly take the traveller back in time.

Hi to you all I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful trip. I know you all put a lot of effort into the trip for us to make it special and I appreciate it.

Bhutan was incredible and everything turned out perfectly. It was a long trip home, but I made it safely. Thanks again, hope to see you sometime in the

future. Peace and gratitude,

interspersed with Myanmar native traits and characteristics. Buddhism has great influence

on daily life of the Myanmar. The people have preserved the traditions of close family ties,

respect for the elders, reverence for Buddhism and simple native dress. Myanmars are

contented and cheerful even in the face of adversities and known for their simple hospitality and friendliness.

Chin State consisted of two districts in the North and South. Nat Ma Taung, Thuamvum, Mount Victoria, is the highest peak in Chin State. Many

natural watercourses flow among mountain ranges running from north to south forming a number of valleys and gorges. The state has a lot of

rivers and the Manipur River flows through its northern half. The Tayawbar River forms much of the border with India for the northern half of

the state. The Boynu River, as the Kaladan River is known upstream from its confluence with the Tayawbar, forms the border with India for

the central portion of the state. In the southwestern part of the state, the Kaladan River enters from India and flows down past Paletwa and exits into Rakhine State. The longest water fall in Chin state is the Bungtla Waterfall near Matupi..

THE NAGA TRIBES (MYANMAR):

There are estimated more than 150,000 Nagas, comprising of 12 major tribes and

many sub-tribes, dwelling in Myanmar. Similarly across the Indian border the

Konyak tribes of Nagas living in MON District, have their biggest village LONGWA

lyng on the international boundary and its Chief’ (Angh,s) house is half in India

and half in Myanmar. Local’s can cross from one side to the other without any

custom – checks. They also join in each other’s festivals.

Imphal (Manipur) is a cultural capital of North East India. We arrange special

cultural performance by Meities and other local tribes, we are getting this

Manipuri Cultural Extravaganza specially arranged for you to showcase the finer

aspects of this culture... and you should find it very interesting. After the cultural

show, a photographic session with the artists dressed in their special artistic

costumes has also been arranged for you.

In KOHIMA itself, whilst visiting the HORNBILL VILLAGE, we would be able to see

typical village huts of all 16 Naga tribes living in NAGALAND and Border areas. We

get a good idea as to how they all live. Their staple food is rice, generally cooked

with meat or vegetables. They are fond of beef, pork, chicken, dogs, cats almost

any living thing! Chillies are used in good quantity; milk is only now becoming

popular. Rice Beer is produced locally and drunk by everyone. Salt is only now

available.

Naga villages were built on hilltops, a defensive strategy against inter village rivalries, and are fortified with stonewalls, bamboo spikes and

wooden gates. The ‘village always came first’ and the society was so organised that the basic requirements of food, clothing and shelter are

guaranteed to all the members. There are no absentee landlords, and no class of landless peasents.

TRIP CC-INDN-BW 062 ISLAND HOPPING IN AZURE WATERS-MYANMAR AND SIAM

“THAILAND"

The eight hundred uninhabited tropical islands of the Mergui Archipelago in

Myanmar, are home to our unique Myanmar Island Safari. Closed to the

outside world for over fifty years, this wild and remote region of Southeast

Asia has only recently become accessible to the outside world. Indochine

Safari Company runs a tented Safari in to the islands, providing our guests

the chance to discover the secret beauty of these wild and remote islands of

the Mergui Archipelago.

The location of our Myanmar Island Safari Camp is outstanding. We are

based on Wa Ale Kyunn, a large jungle-clad island, located to the west of

Lampi Kyunn National Park. Our Indochine Safari Camp is situated deep in

the heart of the Archipelago, seventy miles from civilisation. Uninhabited

except for our own small presence, we have no unwanted disturbances from

the outside world.

Our Safari camp has been kept in tune with nature, whilst being aware that

creature comforts are also important to the experience. Instead of electric

lighting, there are gas-lights and candles, which are quite adequate and give a very romantic feel.

We have integrated closely with the Moken and have engaged several families to help us with our Myanmar Island Safari. As part of our

itinerary, you will have time to spend with them and travel on their boats. We will also schedule time for them to teach you their fishing

techniques and semi-nomadic way of life.

TIGERPAWS ROLE IN CONSERVATION AND THE PRESERVATION OF

NATURE Pavan Guru , Pani Pita, Mata Dharth Mahat

“The Air is my Guru,The Water, my father,

The Earth My mother.Quoted from the Sikh Holy Book, the Granth Sahib

TigerPaw Adventures as a company is unique in many ways. One of its hallmarks is its commitment to the preservation of the

great outdoors, which has been integral to the company’s operations as a pioneering adventure company.

This commitment to the preservation of nature has been enshrined in the charter Articles & Memorandum of Association of the

Company, unlike others where this commitment is secondary to the Articles & Memorandum and not an afterthought!

Infact, operating adventures in unique habitats, ensured that the company’s very raison detre was at a critical level, the

preservation of nature. It was this that led to the Environmental Fellowship in 1994 and the BCN (Bio Diversity Convservation

Award) in 1995 (details on our website).

Since then, such innovative programs as retraining where poachers became wildlife or angling guides, school education

programs teaching children about rural health, entymology, herpetology and similar programs have been planned, developed

and delivered in different locations.

Currently one of the company’s focus areas is the establishment of “ Bio Diversity Earth Stations “, in fragile eco system

hotspots in India and also to consult in other territories.

Subsequent to the grants awarded in the mid 90’s the company has self funded entirely these conservation, reforestation and

sustainability planning and education initiatives, completely on its own.

In July 2014 the Managing Director, IJ Singh worked with the Indian Institute of Directors during a convention on CSR &

Sustainability, to bring important persepctives from his own experience to the subject of “Environmental Sustainability Through

Green Growth Solutions”. This has resulted in an array of new initiatives designated to be pursued over the coming years,

including offering expertise to big industrial houses in mega projects such as hydel dams and such and who are unaware or

otherwise unprepared to ensure such features as fish ladders, or the preservation of riverine ecology when planning inter

linking of rivers and other hugely impactful initiatives.

During the course of the coming year, we will be offering patrons, the opportunity to visit unique conservation projects in

different parts of the world. Please enquire about these.

IJ Singh has also published and released a travel book which also includes sections on ecological impact in Himalayan zones

by tourists and pilgrims and methodologies to address this. See the linked site www.nobodaboda.com
