NINE .PREMIERES TO BE PRESENTED ON FESTIVAL OF BRAZILIAN MUSIC PROGRAMS The Festival of Brazilian Music at the Museum of Modern Art, 11 West 53 Street, from October 16 through October 20 will present nine premiere performances of works by contemporary Brazilian com- posers. The premieres are equally divided among the three programs of the Festival. On the first program, October 16 evening and October 17 afternoon, will be presented three of the Villa-Lobos Choros not heard in this country before. These are Choros II for violin and cello; Choros IV for three horns and trombone; and Choros VII for chamber orchestra. Burle Marx will conduct. This same program will also present Romeo Silva and his orchestra, Elsie Houston, Bernardo Segal and Candido Botelho in folk and contemporary Brazilian compositions. A group of Folk Songs arranged for chorus and pianoforte by Luciano Gallet, and the Nonetto by Villa-Lobos will be presented for the first time in this country on the second program, October 18 evening and October 19 afternoon. They will be sung by members of the Schola Cantorum directed by Hugh Ross. On this program there will also be the first presentation here of a group of violin solos— Serenedade, Canto do Cysne Negro and Mariposa na Luz— by Villa-Lobos They will be played by Pery Machado. Elsie Houston and Romeo Silva will appear again on this program. The last program of the Festival, October 20 afternoon and evening, will be devoted entirely to the works of Villa-Lobos and will have first performances in North America of his piano solo, Rudeooema, which Artur Rubinstein will play and of his Bachiana Brazileira No. I for eight celli, and his arrangement of folk songs for chorus a cappella. Mr. Marx will conduct the Bachiana and Mr. Ross will direct members of the Schola Cantorum in the Folk Songs. On the program will also be the Aria from Villa-Lobos 1 Bachiana No. 5 for soprano and celli. It will be sung by Virginia Johnson.

NINE .PREMIERES TO BE PRESENTED

ON FESTIVAL OF BRAZILIAN MUSIC PROGRAMS

The Festival of Brazilian Music at the Museum of Modern Art,

11 West 53 Street, from October 16 through October 20 will present

nine premiere performances of works by contemporary Brazilian com­

posers. The premieres are equally divided among the three programs

of the Festival.

On the first program, October 16 evening and October 17

afternoon, will be presented three of the Villa-Lobos Choros not
