The Eagle is
a Chicken ?
Yew Tee Primary School 2011
A young man found an
eagle’s egg. He put it with
his chickens and mother
hens.
Soon the egg hatched. The
young eagle grew up with all
the other chickens.
Whatever the chickens did,
the eagle also did. He
thought that he was a
chicken just like them.
34
Since the chickens could only
fly for a short distance, the
eagle also learnt to fly a short
distance.
He thought that was what he
was supposed to do. So that was
all that he thought he could do.
And that was all he was able to
do.
One day, the eagle saw a
bird flying high above him.
He was very impressed.
“Who is that?” he asked the
hens around him.
“That’s the eagle, the king of birds,” the hens told him.
Yew Tee Primary School 2011 36
HE belongs to the sky.
We belong to the
earth – we are
chickens.
So the eagle
lived and died a
chicken, for that’s
what he thought he was.

Restorative Practices Approach to
Discipline and Character Building
http://teachingwithteachers.com/restorative-practice/
The four are represented as
different combinations of high
or low control and high or low
support. The restorative
domain combines both high
control and high support and
is characterized by doing
things with people, rather
than to them or for them.
Restorative questions:
- Regarding Misbehaviour:
• What happened?
• What were you thinking of at the time?
• What have you thought of since?
• Who has been affected by what you have done? In what
way?
• What do you think you need to do to make things right?
- To help those affected:
• What did you think when you realized what had happened?
• What impact has this incident had on you and others?
• What has been the hardest thing for you?
• What do you think needs to happen to make things right?
How you can Support this
at Home
Part of the character-building process
• E.g. Responsible in coming to school punctually every day
– The importance to respect the time that has been set for
you and to be accountable for it
• E.g. Respect for self and others
– The importance of appreciating and respecting everyone
around them
