Proverbs 17:1-28(NKJV) 1 Better is a dry morsel with quietness, Than a house full of feasting with strife. 2 A wise servant will rule over a son who causes shame, And will share an inheritance among the brothers. 3 The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, But the Lord tests the hearts. 4 An evildoer gives heed to false lips; A liar listens eagerly to a spiteful tongue. 5 He who mocks the poor reproaches his Maker; He who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished. 6 Children’s children are the crown of old men, And the glory of children is their father. 7 Excellent speech is not becoming to a fool, Much less lying lips to a prince.

23 A wicked man accepts a bribe behind the back To pervert the ways of justice. 24 Wisdom is in the sight of him who has understanding, But the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth. 25 A foolish son is a grief to his father, And bitterness to her who bore him. 26 Also, to punish the righteous is not good, Nor to strike princes for their uprightness. 27 He who has knowledge spares his words, And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit. 28 Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.


Sin brings havoc to our everyday life



Strains, harms, and kills relationships

Proverbs 14:21(NKJV) 21 He who despises his neighbor sins; But he who has mercy on the poor, happy is he.

Increases strife in our lives – vs 1

Draws us towards sin’s calamities – 4-5

Unstoppable actions and reactions – 14




Twists our perspective and sours our outlooks – 15





Fail to seek the good things God has for us – 16





Friends will help us – 17






Know the Lord (in their hearts)






Show the Lord (in their actions)






Call upon the Lord (in their prayers)





Some will still cling to sin – 19-28






Strike out at good – 20-21






Wilt and wither those around them through sin – 22-25





Need to take time out and listen to the Spirit of God – 26-28


Sin brings death to those who peddle and partake it

Sin and death were tied together in the garden

Genesis 2:16-17(NKJV) 16And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”



Sin along the way has wrecked many lives

1 Chronicles 10:13(KJV) 13So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire of it;



Sin will bring the ultimate death to our lives

Revelation 20:11-15(KJV) 11And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.



Sin will bring the ultimate death to our lives

13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.


Sin’s defeat comes through Jesus the Christ of Nazareth



His destiny

John 3:17(KJV) 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Luke 19:10(NKJV) 10for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

1 Timothy 1:15(KJV) 15This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.



His dominion

Hebrews 7:25(KJV) 25Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.



His deed

Isaiah 53:5(NKJV) 5But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

Galatians 3:13(NKJV) 13Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree” ),

1 Peter 3:18(NKJV) 18For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,

Isaiah 53:12(NKJV) 12 Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.
