MDHHS Immunization Priorities
Impact of COVID-19 on
Immunizations in Michigan
MDHHS Influenza
Preparedness
Kent County Expanded Flu Planning
• There will be doses from this CDC Program available later in the season (November to January) to vaccinate adults. The focus will be on the uninsured and under-insured.
• No clear guidance yet on how you would sign up to be a provider.
• KCHD reaching out to long term care centers, nursing homes, and organizations that serve the homeless to assess MCIR status and capacity for vaccinating.
• Once we know more, we will be reaching out to providers that serve adults.
Benefits of Flu Vaccine
• Keep Vaccinating! Governor Whitmer has set a goal to increase our flu doses by 5%. We can exceed that in Kent!
• The Benefits of Flu Vaccination 2018-2019
• Approximately 49 percent of the US population chose to get a flu vaccine during the 2018-2019 flu season, and this prevented an estimated:• 4.4 million flu illnesses, more than the population Los Angles.• 58,000 flu hospitalizations, about the number of students at Ohio State University.• 3,500 flu deaths, equivalent to saving about 10 lives per day over the course of a year.• CDC logo.• Get vaccinated.• www.cdc.gov/flu
Flu rates for Kent County
• Let’s get over 50% this year. We can do it!
MDHHS COVID-19 Preparedness
VFC/Vaccine Updates
Pentacel NDC Change
• Sanofi is changing the cell line of the IPV portion of Pentacel. It is the same one used for their IPV vaccine (Vero cells).
• This change requires a new NDC code.
• You may see both in your office during the change over. VFC may see this first before private orders.
• The CPT code will be the same:90698 New:
KoolTemp ReNew Program
• CDC is trialing return shipping containers for some flu shipments
• Only a small percentage of providers will see these containers
• If you receive one, follow the instructions to close and ship back
VFC Shipping Hours in MCIR
• VFC orders returned to McKesson due to noncompliant hours• Reminders to providers to check their shipping hours for
compliance: at least one weekday other than Monday for at least four consecutive hours• Hours can be modified in the “Shipping” section of the “VFC”
tab (not the business hours section)
• Pay close attention to the four- hour rule. Many of us have had several days for shipping but in only three- hour increments
MCIR Recall
• Thank you for those who attended our MDHHS Recall Webinar!
• The recording is available on the home page of www.mcir.org
• Slides are available at www.mcir.org within the “Immunizing Providers” section
MCIR and EBC Issues
• The new EBC submission within VERA is creating a lot of confusion with Newborn Screening results and those not being present in MCIR months after a child is born. If you have a provider wondering how to get these results, the number is listed on the newborn screening tab within a MCIR id.
Here is a screen shot:
MCIR and Flu
• Flu will begin to impact the overall assessment of a person’s immunization status for everyone aged 6 months and older effective September 1st. This means that flu will be included with all other vaccines to determine whether a person’s overall immunization status is Up to Date, Eligible, or Overdue.
• 9/1/20 will be the Recommended date for flu vaccine for everyone aged 6 months and older in MCIR. For those who have not received flu vaccine by 10/1/20, that is the date they will show as Overdue for flu vaccine.
