DESCRIPTION

Presentation of a public talk given by GAMcKee on the occasion commemorating the 5th anniversary of the referendum in East Timor - at the Leichardt Town Hall, Sydney Australia. The public meeting was organized by the Australia East Timor Association (AETA). McKee, a petroleum engineer, attempted to summarize the 40 year history of petroleum exploration in the Timor Sea, in 40 minutes.

This was at a time when Australian activists began to sense that independence for East Timor was not a distant dream, but a real possibility due to changing historical circumstances caused by the decline of the Soeharto regime.
