Deputy Principal's MessageDeputy Principal's Message

From the beginning of Term 3, we are making some permanentchanges to the way we receipt payments and acceptpermission slips for excursions. There will be no acceptanceof money owing less than 24 hours before departure of theexcursion. If you are paying online, this time frame requiredis increased to a 48 hour window, as we need to be ableto see the payment reach our bank account 24 hours beforethe excursion departure. This should enable us to make busarrangements, etc and be certain of the number of studentsattending. Permissions notes are still required if payments aremade online. There will be no exceptions to this rule. There will be no exceptions to this rule.

We make decisions on excursion costs around the maximumnumber of attendees likely to be going. When we are bookingbuses we need to allow for all students to attend. In the eventwhere there are limited places it becomes, first in best dressed. The time currently taken by administration staff checking onattendance is huge.

School camps are slightly different as the organisation requiresa much earlier deadline to enable planning and therefore theywill still have a set deadline of at least a week before the camp.Payment plans for camps can still be arranged but need to becompleted by the arranged deadlines.

Student Attendance - Same Day AbsenceStudent Attendance - Same Day AbsenceNotificationNotification

The safety and wellbeing of students are the highest prioritiesfor the Department of Education and Training and for theQueensland Government.

At Tinana State School we endeavour to contact a parentor carer via text message when a student's absence isunexplained after the first roll marking of the day.

As home and school work together, student safety will beincreased. Here are some guidelines to make this process moreefficient:

Free Hearing and Vision TestsFree Hearing and Vision Tests

• Notify the school by phone or email before 9:00am ifyour student is going to be absent that day. Pleasegive a brief explanation for the absence.

• If you receive a text message regarding anunexplained absence, please respond promptly, either via text or phone call.

• Please ensure that your mobile phone number andother contact details are up-to-date on the schoolrecords. This is critical, as we need to be able tocontact you in case of emergency.

• If your student arrives late to school, they must go tothe office for a late pass before going to theirclassroom. If they are leaving early, a leave passmust be obtained from the office.

As well as collecting data on Waste Free Wednesday litter freelunches, the Sustainability Squad also are surveying our littercounts on at least 6 lunchtimes over the year. Here are somephotos of us in action.

Here were our Steps:

• Wear gloves

• Empty the bin(s) on the tarpaulin sheet or on theground

• Make a note of which bins/area you are auditing andmake sure you continue auditing the exact sameones for the rest of the campaign to ensureconsistency.

• Separate the content of the bins in three piles:

The Sustainability Squad will be introducing waste-free lunchdays every Wednesday, to encourage and educate studentsabout the importance of packing healthy, rubbish-free lunches.

Every Wednesday, sustainability representatives will visitclasses to collect and record data about litter in lunchboxes. The squad will use the following key for each students’ lunchbox:
