OrdinarytoExtraordinary

henever thestone has beencleaned it looks

a bit better. But it never reachesits potential until the hand of themaster gem cutter has mappedit, cut away the excess edgesand designed the appropriatefacets.

The stone is then ready, butits brilliance is still not revealeduntil the proper light source isfocused upon it. Even some lightsources are not very helpful. Thesun always provides the sourcefor gems to display their great-est brilliance.

The lives of individuals, churches and institutions aremuch like gemstones. Often

they seem very ordinary andeven short on promise. Butwhen they have been cleanedup and had the rough edgesremoved to reveal the facets, they hold far greater promise.

Like gemstones; individuals, churches and institutions neverreach their intended brillianceuntil the proper light source hasbeen focused on and throughthem. We are at our best whenthe Son shines through us.

This has been a great year inthe life of The Baptist College ofFlorida. We have had enoughadversity to cut off a few roughedges. We have had enoughgrinding to polish the surface.

But most importantly the

hand of the Master has beencutting and fashioning the manyfacets of this unique place, adding according to His pur-pose.

With some added facets andHis light shining through the col-lege we have seen expandedfields ofserviceandgrowthas wellas somebrilliantnew col-ors.

In thescriptureour Lord

W

I am fascinated by the process of cuttinggemstones. It is absolutely amazing to me

that you can dig out a seemingly ordinary rockand after carrying it through the right process

see it become a brilliant jewel.

Thirty-nine individuals with the Alabama Campers on Mission volunteered theirtime Feb. 4 - March 8 to provide a much needed facelift to BCF’s maintenance

building as pictured above. In addition, the workers assisted in renovating what willserve as the new preschool center as pictured in the inset photo.

tells us that we are His light inthe world. At The Baptist Collegeof Florida we see this on anongoing basis.

His light shines through stu-dents, faculty, staff, alumni, prayer warriors, Florida Baptists, and financial donors.

The many facets of the col-lege are seen most clearly inpersons, programs, properties, and potential.

The persons of the school can

be seen in students representingover one half of the states in theUnited States as well as anotherfourteen nationalities. Theycome here with many back-grounds but with a singularSavior and a deep commitmentto His service.

Faculty and staff membersrepresent a wealth of diversityand experience. They are pas-tors, other church staff ministers, lay leaders, school teachers andgeneral members in the army ofour Lord. Trustees and other

family members continue to fillout this facet.

The programs of the collegecontinue to grow in size andtype. Thankfully we have hadanother record enrollment thisyear.

In addition to the programson campus we have sites inMiami, Orlando, Jacksonville,Live Oak, Tallahassee andPensacola. The facet of pro-grams expands even further

BCF Downtown CenterIn November 2000, Quen Rahal donated a landmark automobile dealership indowntown Graceville to the college. The college now owns property on three

corners of the Downtown Graceville intersection including: the formerauto dealership and bank, the Jones house which houses the prayer center

and the used car lot now housing a telephone research center.

Pre-construction preparation is currently taking place in the interior of the automobile andbank buildings. Future development plans call for construction of exterior fencing, patiogarden entrances and the development of the interior to house the college's music andfine arts division. The Downtown Center complex will house the college's church musicdivision, music library and communications center. The 11,500 square foot shop bay of

the dealership will be transformed into a theater for college and community events.

This development will provide for much needed space for the expansion of collegeprograms as well as the revitalization of the downtown area.

The architect’s rendering of the floor plan for the renovated BCF DowntownCenter depicts planned auditoriums, classrooms and a communication center.

Cottages at Heritage Village, aresidential community for folksaged 55 and above.

The brightest facet in the lifeof the college is that of poten-tial. The Master Gem Cutteruses it to stretch and position allof the others. This facet will notlet us forget any of the others, nor will it let us simply sit andadmire them at the risk of ceas-ing to grow and develop. Ourpotential is limited only by the

love and power of our Lordwhich is without limit or bound-ary.

Our potential is sometimeshindered by our lack of visionand fortitude. These portions ofthe facet must be constantly pol-ished, ground and lighted. Inorder to develop fully this facetwe must continue to pray, plan, work, wonder, refine and renew.

The facets change. The Son isconstant. The colors are brilliant. The needs are many. My prom-ise to you is that we will remain

faithful and redouble our effortsto see this precious gem of aschool become all that our Lorddesires it to be.

My request to you is that youwill remain faithful and redoubleyour efforts in prayer and finan-cial support to the school as asource of carrying forward whatour Lord wants to do here.Thank you for your help in thepast and in advance for that inthe future.

May God bless each of youand give us Joy in the Journey!
