Tips for improving writing

1. Practise your reading as well as writing.

2. Read the task instructions carefully so you don’t misunderstand anything.

3. Plan your answer before you start writing.

4. Answer all parts of the question fully.

5. Show understanding of any source materials but don’t copy sentences from the text.

6. Organise your writing using paragraphs and linking phrases.

7. Write in a suitable format, style and register.

8. Demonstrate a wide range of language for your level.

9. Write accurately , using correct spelling and grammar.

10.When you finish, check your writing for mistakes and missing information.

Understanding task fulfilment

Task fulfilment is an essential part of writing. You need to be sure you have done exactly what you were asked to do: completed all the components, used the correct word length, the correct register, etc.

You should ask yourself:
