Turn it off!

• Turn off lights and unplug electronics when not in use.

• Using a power strip can make this easier because all you have to do is click the power switch on or off (just make sure your electronics are turned off before doing so).

At Home Heating & Cooling Systems

• Properly maintain your heating and cooling systems.

• Turn down or off your central heating when not at home.

• Make sure your home is properly insulated.

• Always wash a full load of laundry.

• Choose the cold-water setting when washing clothes.

• Heating up water takes a lot of energy. Plus many detergent companies are making detergents specially designed for cold-water washes.

• Clean your dryer lint catch before drying clothes. This will reduce your energy consumption and drying time.

• Better yet hang clothes on a drying line than tumble drying them.

• Carpool when going to work, school, or other group outings.

• Use alternative methods of transportation, like biking, walking, or public transportation.

• Take direct flights. Making numerous stops when flying increases polluting emissions.

• Reduce the amount of junk mail being sent to your home by having your name removed from 3rd party mailing lists.

• Planting one tree will absorb one ton of carbon dioxide over its whole lifetime.

• Buy foods that are in season locally. Foods that are not in season may have been flown in and therefore consumed energy.
