Let the students

draw and create

puppets to be

their characters.

These characters

will be the base

of creating a story which may be acted out in a class

puppet show or video recorded.

Provide the students with

images and let them

imagine what the two

characters could be saying.

They may write them down

or simply share the ideas

with their friends.

Provide questions that will prompt

the students to start imagining and

creating their own dialogue.

Show the students a video or have

them listen to a recording of a

dialogue. You may ask the students

to imitate the characters. You may

even use some props.

Give pictures with dialogue boxes missing some words. The

words may be written somewhere else where the students

may refer to them.

Ask two students to start a dialogue in front of the

class. They may choose their topic and genre such as a

short funny dialogue.

are olive bottom them number funny

Split the students into groups. Then choose

dialogues that total the same number of lines as

there are pupils in each group. Write each

dialogue line on a strip of paper and randomly

distribute one to each person in the group. Do

the same with the other dialogues and groups.

The students will then read their line to rest of

the group and together they will try to rebuild

the dialogue. Once done they will call out a

word such as ‘snap’ and will then be asked to

read their dialogue out to the class. If the others

think it is incorrect they have to restart again.

Ask the students to insert the punctuation

marks in a dialogue. You may have large

dialogues on charts and have them stick

flashcard punctuation marks on the chart by

using glue tack.
