Tips in Using the New iPad
Although for frequent Apple customers, using the new iPad is very much the same as how you use the
iPad 1 and 2, some Apple gadget users still need help when it comes to using the new iPad, especially
the ones who have not yet used one before. Because of all the fascinating features included in the new
iPad, many first- and second-generation iPad users sold their old iPads and bought the new one. If you
are one of them, then you might be familiar now with the iPad. However, maybe you still missed some
useful tips and tricks you never thought of using. Here are some tips in using the iPad
Creating Folders
If you want to create a folder, tap and hold on an app until it vibrates. Drag the app over another app
and release. This will create a folder for both apps. The folder is automatically named, depending on the
similarities or categories of the apps. You can also rename the folder if you want.
Deleting Data for Security
What if you lose your iPad or someone has stolen it, and it has personal or important information on it?
Well, you can enable a feature that can erase sensitive data on your iPad if an unknown user types the
passcode incorrectly ten times. Just navigate to settings, tap General then Passcode Lock, then Erase
Data.
Turning Off Battery Percentage
You can remove the battery charge percentage icon from your iPad. Navigate to Settings, then tap
General and then Usage. Turn off the icon there.
Volume Mute
For iPad 1 users, there was no mute button on the device. Better sell your old iPad now, because with
the iOS 4.3, you can now switch the lock to mute. However, it is still better if you just press and hold the
Volume down button.
Taking a Screenshot
Where is that Print-Screen button? Well, you can actually take a screenshot by pressing home and then
the Sleep/Wake button. The screen will flash which tells you that the photo of the screen was taken.
Screenshots are sent to Photo Gallery automatically. In the Gallery, you can view them or even e-mail
them if you want.
Using Multitasking Gestures
Who says you cannot multitask on the iPad? The Multitasking Gestures use four or five fingers to switch
between apps, bringing up the multitasking bar. You can also close an app and go back to Home. Turn
them on in Settings, then General.
Turning On the Caps Lock
Want to type in all block letters? If you just want to have one capital letter, just tap a shift key, then the
letter. But of course, if the whole sentence is in capital letters, then that would be hard. Turn on the
caps lock by double tapping a shift key.
Copying and Pasting
It is very easy to copy and paste on a personal computer, but then how is it done on the iPad? You can
just tap and hold down a text, and then choose Select to select the portion of text you want to copy. Tap
Copy and then go to a different app and tap and hold down again. A menu will appear. Click Paste.
If you want to select an entire paragraph, tap on it four times.
Replacing a Word
Have you ever mis-typed a very long word and realized that it would take time to continuously tap the
Backspace button? Well, just hold down on the word, choose Select then you will see an option which
says “Replace.” Tap that option and you will see alternative words that have same spellings. This will
quickly correct typographical errors.
There you go. Now you have some basic tips on using the new iPad. These tips can also be used for older
generations.
