Tire Dealers Association of Western PA 2016 Scholarship Fund In 2016 the TDA of WPA will award two (2) $1000.00 College Scholarships to a Member’s son, daughter, stepson or stepdaughter or grandchild. The applicant must be the child, step child or grandchild of a current member or employee of the member of the TDA of WPA and will have graduated from high school in 2016 who is planning to or is already attending college, trade school or business school. Only one application will be eligible from each member. A member is defined as a dues paying business of the TDA of WPA. Members with multiple locations that only pay one dues will be eligible for only one applicant. It will be the responsibility of the member to determine the applicant. Applicant must be enrolled as a full time student. Postgraduate students are not eligible. Previous award winners are not eligible. To be eligible the member must submit the below application to the association postmarked by July 10, 2016. No phone, fax or email applications will be accepted. In the event that more valid applications are received than scholarships the following procedure will be used to determine the awards. The PA Daily number game on August 1, 2016 will be used to determine the winning numbers. Each valid applicant will be given a 3 digit number for the daytime and the evening drawing. The applicant that holds the number closest without going over it on the daytime number will receive 1 of the awards. The 2nd award will go to the person holding the number closest without going over it on the evening drawing. In the evening drawing if all numbers are over, the lowest number over it will be the winner The TDA of WPA Board of Directors will vote to resolve any disputes. In the event only one application is received then only one scholarship will be awarded. The Scholarship check will be made out to the student and the school of his/her choice. The scholarship is not limited to potential college students, but is intended for anyone wanting to further their education whether it is college, trade school or business school.

President Bill’s Monthly Message
PAGE 3
The only appropriate way to start this month’s message out is as follows. Happy Birthday America! Please take the time to reflect and appreciate an-other year this great country exists and to remember all of the people that sac-rificed before us to make this great country possible. With that being, said on to business.
On June 22nd we had our annual golf outing that was organized by our golf chairman Pat Sheridan who works very hard to promote and facilitate a great day on the course. If you have not attended one of these, you are truly missing a great time. We also had the help and support of many of the largest tire manufactures. A special thank you goes out to the tire manufactures who have supported our events year after year (Bridgestone/Firestone Tire, Cooper Tire, Continental, General Tire, Goodyear Tire, Falken Tire, Hankook Tire). Also a thank you to our members who not only golf, but sponsor and support the association year after year as well (American Tire Distributors, Butler Tire Federated insurance, Kerle Tire, States Tire, Tire Pros, Laurel Gar-dens Tire, Bonnett Enterprises, Import Export Tire, Goodyear of Bellevue, Mighty Tire, Stoney Hollow Tire, Brutt Specialty Tire, Ronnie’s Tire, Express Tire). I also would like to thank all our members for their continued support and to let all of our members know that our door, ears, and mail boxes, are al-ways available to you. If there are ever any concerns, question, suggestions, or ideas for our Dinner meetings and or events, please let us know.
Over the next few months we will be working on bringing the association’s day to day practices to a more modern and manageable direction with finding ways to get the members and supporters the most value for their membership. I would like to close with only this. Have a safe and happy fourth, and God Bless America!

Legislative update on issues impacting tire dealers.
House Passes Small Business Healthcare Relief Act We are pleaded to announce that the house of Representatives passed on June 21 the Small Business Healthcare Relief Act (H.R. 5447) As you may know from our prior alerts and communications the Small Business Healthcare Relief Act is a bi-partisan bill which TIA has been supporting and promoting for the past year. The coalition of associations that TIA worked with in support of the bill is impressive and has clearly had an impact. The purpose of the bill is to address the fact that, under current law, employers who do not sponsor a group health plan but that reimburse their employees for their premiums for individual coverage are violating the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) and are running the risk of being liable for an excise tax of $100 per day per reimbursed employee (or $36,500 per employee per year). You read that right—up to $36,500 of penalties per year per employee for doing something nice for their employees! The bill is now awaiting action in the Senate (as S. 3060) where it has been assigned to the Senate Finance Committee, The bill has the following co-sponsors 9(n alphabetical order) Senators Michael Bennett (D-CO), Christopher Coons (D-DE), Cory Gardner (R-CO), Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), Johnny Isakson (R-GA), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Rob Portman (R-OH), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Pat Roberts (R-KS), Jon Tester (D-MT), David Vitter (R-LA) Mark Warner (D-VA). If your Senator is not on the list, we encourage you to reach out to them to urge them to support the bill. The Council for Affordable Health Coverage has also set up a website which will allow you to send a message to your Senator in support of the bill. In this era of Congressional stagnation, we are very pleased to see this small business friendly bi-partisan bill moving forward. TIA will continue its efforts to help get this important bill over the finish line so small businesses can continue to help their employees by reimbursing some or all of their premiums for individual insurance on a pre-tax basis.
